Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:11786 حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْمُخَرِّمِيُّ ثنا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ثنا حَازِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ تَمَارَى النَّاسُ فِي الْهِلَالِ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَجَاءَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ فَشَهِدَ أَنَّهُ رَآهُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «تَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَنِّي رَسُولُ اللهِ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ فَأَمَرَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِلَالًا فَنَادَى «إِنَّ الصَّوْمَ غَدًا»

Ibn Abbas said: The people disputed about the crescent moon during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). A Bedouin came and testified that he had seen it. The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked: 'Do you testify that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'Yes.' So the Prophet (peace be upon him) ordered Bilal to announce: 'The fast is tomorrow.'
