Narrated Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said that the clods (used) for cleansing after relieving oneself are odd in number, the pebbles of the Jamra are odd, the sa'y between Safa and Marwa is odd, and the tawaf of the Ka'ba is odd (that is, the last three are each seven). And it is necessary that whoever takes stones for cleansing should take an odd number (that is, three or five, by which purification is fully achieved—meaning if purification is achieved in four, one should still take one more so that they become odd. And as for what some foolish jurists have written, that one should tap the clod three times at the time of purification so as to refrain from tasbih, this is an innovation, baseless, and a futile act; and taking an odd number of clods is, according to the majority of scholars, recommended).

سیدنا جابر رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہرسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ استنجاء کے لئے ڈھیلے لینا طاق ہیں اور جمرہ کی کنکریاں طاق ہیں اور صفا اور مروہ کی سعی طاق ہے اور کعبہ کا طواف طاق ہے (یعنی آخری تینوں سات سات ہیں) اور ضرور ہے کہ جو استنجے کے لئے پتھر لے تو طاق لے (یعنی تین یا پانچ جس میں طہارت خوب ہو جائے۔ یعنی اگر طہارت چار میں ہو جائے تو بھی ایک اور لے تاکہ طاق ہو جائیں اور بعض بیوقوف فقہاء نے جو یہ لکھا ہے کہ ڈھیلے کے تئیں طہارت کے وقت تین بار ٹھونک لے کہ تسبیح سے باز رہے، یہ بدعت، بے اصل اور لغو حرکت ہے اور طاق ڈھیلے لینا جمہور علماء کے نزدیک مستحب ہے)۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 727]
