انگریزی ترجمہ
Narrated Sahl ibn Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him): When this verse was revealed, "Eat and drink until the white thread becomes distinct to you from the black thread" (al-Baqarah: 187), a man, when he intended to fast, would tie two threads to his leg, one white and the other black, and would keep eating and drinking until the difference between the black and the white became apparent to his sight. Then Allah, the Exalted, revealed after that the words "of the dawn," and then the people understood that by the threads were meant the night and the day.
اردو ترجمہ
سیدنا سہل بن سعد رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہجب یہ آیت اتری کہ”کھاؤ اور پیو یہاں تک کہ سفید دھاگہ سیاہ دھاگے سے ممتاز نہ ہو جائے“{ البقرہ: 178 } تو آدمی جب روزہ رکھنے کا ارادہ کرتا تو دو دھاگے اپنے پیر میں باندھ لیتا، ایک سفید اور دوسرا سیاہ اور کھاتا پیتا رہتا یہاں تک کہ اس کو دیکھنے میں کالے اور سفید کا فرق معلوم ہونے لگتا۔ تب اللہ تعالیٰ نے اس کے بعد”فجر سے“کا لفظ اتارا، تب لوگوں کو معلوم ہوا کہ دھاگوں سے مراد رات اور دن ہے۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 583]
