Narrated Abu Wa'il (may Allah be pleased with him): Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) delivered a sermon to us, and he made it very brief and most eloquent. Then when he came down from the pulpit, we said, "O Abu al-Yaqzan, you delivered a most eloquent sermon and made it very brief. It would have been better if you had made the sermon a little longer." So Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: 'A man's making his prayer long and his sermon short is a sign of his understanding. So make the prayer long and the sermon short. And indeed some speech is (like) magic (i.e., it has an effect).'" [Mukhtasar Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 411]
اردو ترجمہ
سیدنا ابووائل رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہسیدنا عمار رضی اللہ عنہ نے ہم پر خطبہ پڑھا اور بہت مختصر پڑھا اور نہایت بلیغ۔ پھر جب وہ منبر سے اترے تو ہم نے کہا کہ اے ابوالیقظان! تم نے بہت بلیغ خطبہ پڑھا اور نہایت مختصر کہا۔ اگر آپ اس خطبہ کو ذرا طویل کرتے تو بہتر ہوتا۔ تب سیدنا عمار رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ میں نے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے سنا ہے آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمفرماتے تھے، کہ آدمی کا نماز کو لمبا کرنا اور خطبہ کو مختصر کرنا اس کے سمجھ دار ہونے کی نشانی ہے، سو تم نماز کو لمبا کیا کرو اور خطبہ کو چھوٹا۔ اور بعض بیان جادو ہوتا ہے (یعنی تاثیر رکھتا ہے)[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 411]
