Narrated Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to recite Surah al-Fatihah and one surah each in the first two rak'ahs of the Zuhr and Asr prayers, and sometimes he would let us hear a verse or two, and in the last two rak'ahs he would recite only Surah al-Fatihah.

سیدنا ابوقتادہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہرسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمظہر اور عصر کی پہلی دو رکعتوں میں سورۃ الفاتحہ اور ایک ایک سورت پڑھتے تھے اور کبھی ایک آدھ آیت ہمیں سنا دیتے تھے اور پچھلی دو رکعتوں میں صرف سورۃ الفاتحہ پڑھتے تھے۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 286]
