Narrated Ammar, the freed slave of Banu Hashim: I asked Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), "How old was the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) when he passed away?" He said, "I did not think that you, being of his people, would not know this much." I said, "I asked people, and they differed about it, so I thought it best to hear your statement about this matter." Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said, "Do you know arithmetic?" I said, "Yes." He said, "Remember forty years, for at that time he became a prophet. Now add fifteen, for the period he remained in Makkah, sometimes in security and sometimes in fear. Now add ten more, which passed in Madinah after the migration (so all together it makes sixty-five years)." And previously the hadith of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) has passed, that the Prophet (peace be upon him) passed away at the age of sixty. (See Hadith: 1556.) اردو ترجمہ
عمار مولیٰ بنی ہاشم کہتے ہیں کہمیں نے سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے پوچھا کہ جب رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی وفات ہوئی تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکتنے برس کے تھے؟ انہوں نے کہا کہ میں نہیں سمجھتا تھا کہ تم آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی قوم سے ہو کر اتنی بات نہ جانتے ہو گے۔ میں نے کہا کہ میں نے لوگوں سے پوچھا تو انہوں نے اس میں اختلاف کیا، پس مجھے اس بارے میں آپ کا قول سننا بہتر معلوم ہوا۔ سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہا کہ تم حساب جانتے ہو؟ میں نے کہا کہ ہاں تو انہوں نے کہا کہ چالیس برس کو یاد رکھو کہ اس وقت آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمپیغمبر ہوئے۔ اب پندرہ اور جوڑو کہ جب تک آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلممکہ میں رہے کبھی امن کے ساتھ اور کبھی ڈر کے ساتھ۔ اب دس اور جوڑو جو مدینہ میں ہجرت کے بعد گزرے (تو سب ملا کر پینسٹھ برس ہوتے ہیں)۔ اور اس سے پہلے سیدنا انس رضی اللہ عنہ کی حدیث گزر چکی ہے کہ نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے ساٹھ برس کی عمر میں وفات پائی۔ (دیکھئیے حدیث: 1556)۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 1595]
