Narrated Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): On the day of the Battle of Badr, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) saw that the polytheists were a thousand, while his (peace be upon him) companions were three hundred and nineteen. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) looked at the polytheists, then facing the qiblah, he stretched out both his hands and began supplicating to his Lord, calling out repeatedly (from this hadith it is derived that in supplication it is recommended to face the qiblah and stretch out the hands): "O Allah! Fulfill for me the promise You made to me. O Allah! Grant me what You promised me. O Allah, if You destroy this band of Muslims, then none will worship You on earth." Then he (peace be upon him) continued supplicating with his hands stretched out, until his (peace be upon him) blessed cloak slipped from his shoulders. Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came and put his (peace be upon him) cloak back on his shoulders, then embraced him from behind and said, "O Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him)! This much supplication of yours (peace be upon him) is enough; now Allah the Exalted will fulfill the promise He made to you." Then Allah the Exalted revealed this verse: "When you sought help from Allah the Exalted, and He answered your supplication, and said: I will help you with a thousand angels, rank upon rank" (al-Anfal: 9). Then Allah the Exalted aided him (peace be upon him) with the angels. Abu Zumayl (the narrator of the hadith) said: Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated to me that on that day a Muslim was chasing a disbeliever who was ahead of him, when suddenly from above the sound of a whip was heard, and (a voice) saying, "Advance, O Hayzum!" (Hayzum was the name of that angel's horse). Then, when he looked, the disbeliever fell flat on his back before the Muslim. When the Muslim looked at him, there was a mark on his nose and his face was split open, as if struck by a whip, and it (from the whip) had turned green. Then the Muslim Ansari came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and related the story, and he (peace be upon him) said, "You speak the truth; this was help that came from the third heaven." In the end, the Muslims that day killed seventy disbelievers and took seventy captive. Abu Zumayl said: Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: When the captives were brought in, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), "What is your opinion concerning these captives?" Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Messenger of Allah! They are our kinsmen and relatives. I think you should take some ransom from them and release them, so that the Muslims may have strength to confront the disbelievers, and perhaps Allah the Exalted may guide these people to Islam." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "O Ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him)! What is your opinion?" He said, "No, by Allah, O Messenger of Allah! My opinion is not the same as the opinion of Abu Bakr. My opinion is that you hand them over to us so that we may kill them. Hand Aqil over to Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) to strike his neck, and give me my such-and-such relative so that I may strike his neck, for these people are the 'leaders' of disbelief." But the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was pleased with the opinion of Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) and was not pleased with my opinion. And when the next day came and I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), (I saw that) he (peace be upon him) and Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) were both sitting and weeping. I said, "O Messenger of Allah! Tell me also why you and your companion are weeping? If weeping comes to me, I will weep, and if not, I will make a show of weeping because of your weeping." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "I weep because of that which was presented to me concerning your companions taking ransom — their punishment was brought before me, nearer even than this tree" (there was a tree near the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and he pointed toward it). Then Allah the Exalted revealed this verse: "It is not for a prophet to hold captives until he has crushed the power of the disbelievers in the land" (al-Anfal: 67-69). اردو ترجمہ

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہغزوہ بدر کے دن رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے مشرکوں کو دیکھا کہ وہ ایک ہزار تھے اور آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے اصحاب تین سو انیس تھے۔ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے مشرکوں کو دیکھا اور قبلہ کی طرف منہ کر کے دونوں ہاتھ پھیلائے اور اپنے پروردگار سے پکار پکار کر دعا کرنے لگے (اس حدیث سے یہ نکلا کہ دعا میں قبلہ کی طرف منہ کرنا اور ہاتھ پھیلانا مستحب ہے) یا اللہ! تو نے جو وعدہ مجھ سے کیا اس کو پورا کر، اے اللہ! تو مجھے دیدے جس کا تو نے مجھ سے وعدہ کیا، اے اللہ اگر تو مسلمانوں کی اس جماعت کو تباہ کر دے گا، تو پھر زمین میں تیری عبادت کوئی نہ کرے گا۔ پھر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلماپنے ہاتھ پھیلائے ہوئے برابر دعا کرتے رہے، یہاں تک کہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی چادر مبارک کندھوں سے اتر گئی۔ سیدنا ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ آئے اور آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی چادر کندھوں پر ڈال دی پھر پیچھے سے لپٹ گئے اور کہا کہ اے اللہ کے نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم! بس آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی اتنی دعا کافی ہے اب اللہ تعالیٰ اپنا وہ وعدہ پورا کرے گا جو اس نے آپ سے کیا ہے۔ تب اللہ تعالیٰ نے یہ آیت اتاری کہ”جب تم اللہ تعالیٰ سے دعا کرتے تھے اور اس نے تمہاری دعا قبول فرمائی اور فرمایا کہ میں تمہاری مدد ایک ہزار لگاتار فرشتوں سے کروں گا“(الانفال: 9) پھر اللہ تعالیٰ نے آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی مدد فرشتوں سے کی۔ ابوزمیل (راوی حدیث) نے کہا کہ مجھ سے سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے حدیث بیان کی کہ اس روز ایک مسلمان ایک کافر کے پیچھے دوڑ رہا تھا جو کہ اس کے آگے تھا، اتنے میں اوپر سے کوڑے کی آواز سنائی دی وہ کہتا تھا کہ بڑھ اے حیزوم (حیزوم اس فرشتے کے گھوڑے کا نام تھا) پھر جو دیکھا تو وہ کافر اس مسلمان کے سامنے چت گر پڑا۔ مسلمان نے جب اس کو دیکھا کہ اس کی ناک پر نشان تھا اور اس کا منہ پھٹ گیا تھا، جیسا کوئی کوڑا مارتا ہے اور وہ (کوڑے کی وجہ سے) سبز ہو گیا تھا۔ پھر مسلمان انصاری رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے پاس آیا اور قصہ بیان کیا، تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ تو سچ کہتا ہے یہ تیسرے آسمان سے آئی ہوئی مدد تھی۔ آخر مسلمانوں نے اس دن ستر کافروں کو مارا اور ستر کو قید کیا۔ ابوزمیل نے کہا کہ سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہا کہ جب قیدی گرفتار ہو کر آئے، تو رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے سیدنا ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ اور سیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ سے کہا کہ ان قیدیوں کے بارے میں تمہاری کیا رائے ہے؟ سیدنا ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ یا رسول اللہ! یہ ہماری برادری کے لوگ ہیں اور کنبے والے ہیں، میں یہ سمجھتا ہوں کہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمان سے کچھ مال لے کر چھوڑ دیجئیے جس سے مسلمانوں کو کافروں سے مقابلہ کرنے کی طاقت بھی ہو اور شاید اللہ تعالیٰ ان لوگوں کو اسلام کی ہدایت کر دے۔ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ اے ابن خطاب رضی اللہ عنہ! تمہاری کیا رائے ہے؟ انہوں نے کہا کہ نہیں اللہ کی قسم یا رسول اللہ! میری رائے وہ نہیں ہے جو ابوبکر کی رائے ہے۔ میری رائے یہ ہے کہ آپ ان کو ہمارے حوالے کر دیں تاکہ ہم ان کو قتل کریں۔ عقیل کو علی (رضی اللہ عنہ) کے حوالے کیجئے، وہ ان کی گردن ماریں اور مجھے میرا فلاں عزیز دیجئیے کہ میں اس کی گردن ماروں، کیونکہ یہ لوگ کفر کے”امام“ہیں۔ لیکن رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو سیدنا ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ عنہ کی رائے پسند آئی اور میری رائے پسند نہیں آئی اور جب دوسرا دن ہوا اور میں رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے پاس آیا (تو دیکھا کہ) آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلماور سیدنا ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ دونوں بیٹھے رو رہے تھے۔ میں نے کہا کہ یا رسول اللہ! یہ ہماری برادری کے لوگ ہیں اور کنبے والے ہیں، میں یہ سمجھتا ہوں کہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمان سے کچھ مال لے کر چھوڑ دیجئیے جس سے مسلمانوں کو کافروں سے مقابلہ کرنے کی طاقت بھی ہو اور شاید اللہ تعالیٰ ان لوگوں کو اسلام کی ہدایت کر دے۔ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ اے ابن خطاب رضی اللہ عنہ! تمہاری کیا رائے ہے؟ انہوں نے کہا کہ نہیں اللہ کی قسم یا رسول اللہ! میری رائے وہ نہیں ہے جو ابوبکر کی رائے ہے۔ میری رائے یہ ہے کہ آپ ان کو ہمارے حوالے کر دیں تاکہ ہم ان کو قتل کریں۔ عقیل کو علی (رضی اللہ عنہ) کے حوالے کیجئے، وہ ان کی گردن ماریں اور مجھے میرا فلاں عزیز دیجئیے کہ میں اس کی گردن ماروں، کیونکہ یہ لوگ کفر کے”امام“ہیں۔ لیکن رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو سیدنا ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ عنہ کی رائے پسند آئی اور میری رائے پسند نہیں آئی اور جب دوسرا دن ہوا اور میں رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے پاس آیا (تو دیکھا کہ) آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلماور سیدنا ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ دونوں بیٹھے رو رہے تھے۔ میں نے کہا کہ یا رسول اللہ! مجھے بھی بتائیے کہ آپ اور آپ کے ساتھی کیوں رو رہے ہیں؟ اگر مجھے بھی رونا آئے گا تو روؤں گاور نہ آپ دونوں کے رونے کی وجہ سے رونے کی صورت بناؤں گا۔ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ میں اس وجہ سے روتا ہوں کہ جو تمہارے ساتھیوں کو فدیہ لینے سے میرے سامنے ان کا عذاب لایا گیا اس درخت سے بھی زیادہ نزدیک (رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے پاس ایک درخت تھا، اس کی طرف اشارہ کیا) پھر اللہ تعالیٰ نے یہ آیت اتاری کہ”نبی کو یہ درست نہیں کہ وہ قیدی رکھے جب تک زمین میں کافروں کا زور نہ توڑ دے“(الانفال: 69..67)۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 1159]
