It is narrated from Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him) that Ma'iz bin Malik al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have wronged myself by committing adultery. I want you to purify me." The Prophet (peace be upon him) turned him away. Then on the next day he came again and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have committed adultery." The Prophet (peace be upon him) turned him away and sent someone to his people to inquire whether there was any defect in his intellect and whether they had noticed anything. They said: "We know of no defect, and as far as we understand, his intellect is sound." Then Ma'iz (may Allah be pleased with him) came a third time, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) again sent to his people (and made the same inquiry), and they said: "He has no illness, nor is there any defect in his intellect." When he came a fourth time (and said the same, 'I have committed adultery, purify me'—though purification could also come through repentance, but Ma'iz, may Allah be pleased with him, feared that his repentance might not be accepted), then the Prophet (peace be upon him) had a pit dug for him, and then by his order he was stoned. The narrator says: (After that) the woman of Ghamid came and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have committed adultery; purify me." The Prophet (peace be upon him) turned her away. When the next day came, she said: "O Messenger of Allah, why do you turn me away? Perhaps you wish to turn me away as you turned away Ma'iz (may Allah be pleased with him). By Allah, I am pregnant (so what doubt is there now about the adultery?)." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Well, if you will not turn back (and repent to become pure, but instead want the worldly punishment), then go and come after you have given birth." When she gave birth, she came carrying the child wrapped in a cloth and said: "Here, this child has been born." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Go and suckle him, and come when you have weaned him." (This is the view of ash-Shafi'i, Ahmad, and Ishaq, that a woman is not to be stoned even after giving birth until arrangements are made for the child's milk; otherwise they wait until the child is weaned. And in the view of Imam Abu Hanifah and Malik, she is stoned as soon as she gives birth.) When she had weaned him, she came carrying the child, who had a piece of bread in his hand, and said: "O Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him), I have weaned him, and he has begun to eat food." The Prophet (peace be upon him) gave the child to a Muslim to raise. Then by his order a pit was dug up to her chest, and he ordered the people to stone her. Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) came with a stone and struck her on the head, and the blood spurted onto Khalid's (may Allah be pleased with him) face. Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) reviled her, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) heard this reviling, so he said: "Gently, O Khalid (do not say such a thing)! By Him in whose hand is my soul, she has repented such a repentance that, if a (wrongful) tax-collector (who oppresses people, is guilty of violating the rights of God's servants, and afflicts the poor) were to repent likewise, his sin too would be forgiven (although in another hadith it is stated that such a person will not enter Paradise)." Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) gave the order, and the funeral prayer was performed over her, and she was buried. سیدنا بریدہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہماعز بن مالک اسلمی رضی اللہ عنہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے پاس آئے اور کہا کہ یا رسول اللہ! میں نے اپنی جان پر ظلم کیا ہے کہ زنا کر بیٹھا ہوں۔ میں چاہتا ہوں کہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلممجھے پاک کریں۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے ان کو پھیر دیا۔ پھر جب دوسرا دن ہوا تو وہ پھر آئے اور کہنے لگے کہ یا رسول اللہ! میں نے زنا کیا ہے۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے ان کو پھیر دیا اور ان کی قوم کے پاس کسی کو بھیجا اور دریافت کرایا کہ ان کی عقل میں کچھ فتور ہے؟ اور تم نے کوئی بات دیکھی؟ انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم تو کچھ فتور نہیں جانتے اور جہاں تک ہم سمجھتے ہیں ان کی عقل اچھی ہے۔ پھر تیسری بار ماعز رضی اللہ عنہ آئے تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے ان کی قوم کے پاس پھر بھیجا (اور یہی دریافت کرایا) تو انہوں نے کہا کہ ان کو کوئی بیماری نہیں ہے اور نہ ان کی عقل میں کچھ فتور ہے۔ جب وہ چوتھی بار آئے (اور انہوں نے یہی کہا کہ میں نے زنا کیا ہے مجھے پاک کیجئے حالانکہ توبہ سے بھی پاکی ہو سکتی تھی مگر ماعز رضی اللہ عنہ کو شک ہوا کہ شاید توبہ قبول نہ ہو)، تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے ان کے لئے ایک گڑھا کھدوایا پھر وہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے حکم پر رجم کئے گئے۔ راوی کہتا ہے (اس کے بعد) غامدیہ کی عورت آئی اور کہنے لگی یا رسول اللہ! میں نے زنا کیا ہے مجھے پاک کیجئے۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے اس کو پھیر دیا۔ جب دوسرا دن ہوا تو اس نے کہا کہ یا رسول اللہ! آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلممجھے کیوں لوٹاتے ہیں؟ شاید آپ ایسے لوٹانا چاہتے ہیں جیسے ماعز رضی اللہ عنہ کو لوٹایا تھا۔ اللہ کی قسم میں تو حاملہ ہوں (تو اب زنا میں کیا شک ہے)۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ اچھا اگر تو نہیں لوٹتی (اور توبہ کر کے پاک ہونا نہیں چاہتی بلکہ دنیا کی سزا ہی چاہتی ہے) تو جا، جننے کے بعد آنا۔ جب ولادت ہو گئی تو بچہ کو ایک کپڑے میں لپیٹ کر لائی اور کہا: لیجئے یہ بچہ پیدا ہو گیا ہے۔ تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا جا اس کو دودھ پلا جب اس کا دودھ چھٹے۔ (شافعی اور احمد اور اسحٰق کا یہی قول ہے کہ عورت کو رجم نہ کریں گے جننے کے بعد بھی جب تک دودھ کا بندوبست نہ ہو ورنہ دودھ چھٹنے تک انتظار کریں گے اور امام ابوحنیفہ اور مالک کے نزدیک جنتے ہی رجم کریں گے) جب اس کا دودھ چھٹا تو وہ بچے کو لے کر آئی اس کے ہاتھ میں روٹی کا ایک ٹکڑا تھا اور عرض کرنے لگی کہ اے اللہ کے نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم)! میں نے اس کا دودھ چھڑا دیا ہے اور یہ کھانا کھانے لگا ہے۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے وہ بچہ ایک مسلمان کو پرورش کے لئے دے دیا۔ پھر آپ کے حکم سے ایک گڑھا کھودا گیا اس کے سینے تک اور لوگوں کو اس کے سنگسار کرنے کا حکم دیا۔ سیدنا خالد بن ولید رضی اللہ عنہ ایک پتھر لے کر آئے اور اس کے سر پر مارا تو خون اڑ کر سیدنا خالد رضی اللہ عنہ کے منہ پر گرا۔ سیدنا خالد رضی اللہ عنہ نے اس کو برا کہا اور یہ برا کہنا رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے سن لیا، تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ خبردار اے خالد (ایسا مت کہو) قسم اس کی جس کے ہاتھ میں میری جان ہے اس نے ایسی توبہ کی ہے کہ اگر (ناجائز) محصول (ٹیکس) لینے والا (جو لوگوں پر ظلم کرتا ہے اور حقوق العباد میں گرفتار ہوتا ہے اور مسکینوں کو ستاتا ہے) بھی ایسی توبہ کرے تو اس کا گناہ بھی بخش دیا جائے (حالانکہ دوسری حدیث میں ہے کہ ایسا شخص جنت میں نہ جائے گا) پھر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے حکم کیا تو اس پر نماز پڑھی گئی اور وہ دفن کی گئی۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 1039]سیدنا بریدہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہماعز بن مالک اسلمی رضی اللہ عنہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے پاس آئے اور کہا کہ یا رسول اللہ!
