Hadrat Sa'id ibn Jubayr (upon him be mercy) reported: I was asked about the invokers of curse (li'an) during the reign of Mus'ab (ibn al-Zubayr) — whether they should be separated. He said: I did not know what to answer, so I went to the house of Hadrat Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be well pleased with them both) in Mecca and said to his servant: Seek permission for me. He said: He is resting. He (Hadrat Ibn Umar, may Allah be well pleased with them both) heard my voice and said: Are you the son of Jubayr? I submitted: Yes. He said: Come in. By Allah, you must have come for some need. I entered and found him reclining on a mattress, leaning against a pillow stuffed with palm fibre. I submitted: O Abu Hadrat Abd al-Rahman! Is there separation between those who invoke the curse? He said: SubhanAllah! Yes! The first person to ask about this was so-and-so who submitted: O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! If one of us sees his wife committing (an indecent act), what should he do? If he speaks about it, it is a grave matter; and if he remains silent, it is also a grave matter. He said: The Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) remained silent and did not answer. Then later, that man came to him and submitted: The matter I asked you about has befallen me! Then Allah revealed the verses of Surah al-Nur: 'And those who accuse their wives' (24:6). Then the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) recited these verses to the man, admonished him, reminded him, and told him that the punishment of this world is lighter than the punishment of the Hereafter. He said: No! By Him Who sent you with the Truth! I have not lied about her. Then he called the woman, admonished her, reminded her, and told her that the punishment of this world is lighter than the punishment of the Hereafter. She said: No! By Him Who sent you with the Truth! He (my husband) is lying. Then he began with the man first: he swore four oaths by Allah that he was truthful (in his accusation), then the fifth time he invoked Allah's curse upon himself if he was lying. Then the woman swore four oaths by Allah that he (the husband) was lying, then the fifth time she invoked Allah's wrath upon herself if he (the husband) was truthful. Then the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) effected separation between them.
اردو ترجمہ
حضرت سعید بن جبیر رحمۃ اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ سے روایت ہے، فرماتے ہیں: مجھ سے مصعب (بن حضرت زبیر) کے دورِ حکومت میں لعان کرنے والوں کے بارے میں پوچھا گیا کہ کیا ان میں تفریق (جدائی) کی جائے گی؟ فرماتے ہیں: مجھے سمجھ نہ آئی کہ کیا جواب دوں، تو میں مکہ میں حضرت عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما کے مکان گیا اور ان کے خادم سے کہا: میرے لیے اجازت لو۔ اس نے کہا: وہ آرام فرما رہے ہیں۔ انہوں (حضرت ابن عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما) نے میری آواز سنی اور فرمایا: کیا تم جبیر کے بیٹے ہو؟ میں نے عرض کیا: ہاں۔ فرمایا: اندر آؤ۔ اللہ کی قسم! تم ضرور کسی ضرورت سے آئے ہو۔ میں اندر آیا تو وہ ایک کمبل (بستر) پر بیٹھے ہوئے تھے اور ایک تکیے پر ٹیک لگائے ہوئے تھے جو کھجور کی چھال سے بھرا ہوا تھا۔ میں نے عرض کیا: اے ابو عبدالرحمٰن! لعان کرنے والوں میں جدائی ہوتی ہے؟ فرمایا: سبحان اللہ! ہاں! سب سے پہلے جس نے اس بارے میں سوال کیا وہ فلاں بن فلاں تھا، اس نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! اگر ہم میں سے کوئی اپنی بیوی کو (فعلِ بد) کرتے دیکھے تو وہ کیا کرے؟ اگر بات کرے تو بڑی بات ہے اور اگر خاموش رہے تو بھی بڑی بات ہے۔ فرماتے ہیں: آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے خاموشی اختیار فرمائی اور جواب نہ دیا۔ پھر اس کے بعد وہ شخص آپ کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا اور عرض کی: جو مسئلہ میں نے آپ سے پوچھا تھا وہ مجھ پر (خود) آ پڑا ہے! تب اللہ تعالیٰ نے سورۂ نور کی یہ آیات نازل فرمائیں: " وَالَّذِينَ يَرْمُونَ أَزْوَاجَهُمْ " (اور جو لوگ اپنی بیویوں پر تہمت لگائیں)۔ پھر آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ان آیات کو اس شخص پر تلاوت فرمایا، اسے نصیحت فرمائی، یاد دہانی کرائی اور بتایا کہ دنیا کا عذاب آخرت کے عذاب سے ہلکا ہے۔ اس نے کہا: نہیں! اس ذات کی قسم جس نے آپ کو حق کے ساتھ بھیجا! میں نے اس (بیوی) کے بارے میں جھوٹ نہیں بولا۔ پھر آپ نے عورت کو بلایا اور اسے بھی نصیحت فرمائی اور یاد دہانی کرائی اور بتایا کہ دنیا کا عذاب آخرت کے عذاب سے ہلکا ہے۔ اس (عورت) نے کہا: نہیں! اس ذات کی قسم جس نے آپ کو حق کے ساتھ بھیجا! وہ (میرا خاوند) جھوٹا ہے۔ پھر آپ نے پہلے مرد سے شروع فرمایا، اس نے چار مرتبہ اللہ کی قسمیں کھائیں کہ وہ (اپنی بیوی پر الزام میں) سچا ہے، پھر پانچویں مرتبہ اس نے کہا کہ اگر وہ جھوٹا ہے تو اس پر اللہ کی لعنت ہو۔ پھر عورت نے چار مرتبہ اللہ کی قسمیں کھائیں کہ وہ (خاوند) جھوٹا ہے، پھر پانچویں مرتبہ کہا کہ اگر وہ (خاوند) سچا ہے تو اس (عورت) پر اللہ کا غضب ہو۔ پھر آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ان دونوں میں تفریق (جدائی) فرما دی۔
