Abu Hurayrah reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "When a believer is about to die, the angels of mercy come to him with white silk. They say: 'Come out pleased and pleasing to the mercy of Allah, fragrance, and a Lord who is not angry.' It comes out like the best fragrance of musk. They pass it from one to another and smell it until they bring it to the gate of heaven. They say: 'How sweet is this fragrance that has come to you from the earth!' Then they bring it to the souls of the believers, who rejoice more at his arrival than any of you rejoices when one who has been absent returns. They ask him: 'What did so-and-so do? What did so-and-so do?' They say: 'Leave him, for he was in the distress of the world.' When he says: 'Did he not come to you?' They say: 'He was taken to the Pit (Hell).' When the disbeliever is about to die, the angels of punishment come to him with coarse haircloth. They say: 'Come out displeased and displeasing to the punishment of Allah.' It comes out like the worst stench of a corpse." Narrated by al-Nasa'i.
