Khuwaylah bint Tha'labah (may Allah be pleased with her) — who was the wife of Aws ibn al-Samit, the brother of Ubadah ibn al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with them) — narrated: One day he came to me and spoke to me about something while appearing agitated. I responded to him, and he became angry and said: You are to me like the back of my mother (zihar). Then he went out and sat in the gathering of his people. He returned and wanted to be intimate with me, but I refused. He struggled with me and I struggled with him, and I overcame him as a woman overcomes a weak man. I said: No! By the One in whose hand is the soul of Khuwaylah, you shall not reach me until Allah judges between me and you. Then I went to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) complaining about what I had endured from him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "He is your husband and your cousin, so fear Allah and treat him well." She said: I did not leave until the Quran was revealed: "Allah has certainly heard the statement of the one who argues with you concerning her husband" [al-Mujadilah 58:1] until it reached the expiation. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Tell him to free a slave." I said: O Prophet of Allah, he has no slave to free. He said: "Tell him to fast two consecutive months." I said: O Messenger of Allah, he is an old man who cannot fast. He said: "Then let him feed sixty poor people." I said: O Prophet of Allah, he has nothing to feed them with. He said: "We will help him with an 'araq (large basket) of dates" — and an 'araq is a basket that holds thirty sa's. I said: And I will help him with another 'araq. He said: "You have done well. Let him give it in charity."

سیدنا عبادہ بن صامت رضی اللہ عنہ کے بھائی سیدنا اوس بن صامت رضی اللہ عنہ کی بیوی سیدہ خویلہ بنت ثعلبہ رضی اللہ عنہا فرماتی ہیں: ایک دن وہ (اوس بن صامت) میرے پاس آئے اور مجھ سے غصے میں کوئی بات کی، میں نے بھی جواب دے دیا، تو وہ ناراض ہو گئے اور کہنے لگے: تو مجھ پر میری ماں کی پشت کی مانند ہے۔ پھر نکلے اور اپنی قوم کی محفل میں جا بیٹھے۔ پھر (گھر) واپس آئے اور مجھ سے جماع کرنا چاہا تو میں نہ مانی۔ انہوں نے مجھے کھینچا، تو میں نے بھی سختی کی اور ان پر غالب آگئی، جیسا کہ عورت کمزور خاوند پر غالب آجاتی ہے۔ میں نے کہا: اس ذات کی قسم، جس کے ہاتھ میں خویلہ کی جان ہے، آپ مجھ سے اس وقت تک نہیں مل سکتے، جب تک کہ اللہ تعالیٰ میرے اور آپ کے درمیان فیصلہ نہ کر دے۔ پھر میں نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے پاس شکایت لے کر گئی، تو رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا: وہ تیرا خاوند بھی ہے اور چچا زاد بھائی بھی ہے، اللہ سے ڈریں اور ان سے حسن سلوک سے رہیں۔ میں اپنی بات پر قائم رہی حتی کہ قرآن نازل ہو گیا:﴿قَدْ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ قَوْلَ الَّتِي تُجَادِلُكَ فِي زَوْجِهَا﴾(المجادلة: 1) (اللہ تعالیٰ نے اس عورت کی بات سن لی، جو آپ سے اپنے خاوند کے متعلق جھگڑا کر رہی تھی) حتی کہ کفارہ پر آیت ختم ہوئی۔ نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا: انہیں کہیں کہ وہ غلام آزاد کریں۔ میں نے کہا: اللہ کے نبی! اللہ کی قسم! ان کے پاس کوئی غلام نہیں ہے، جسے وہ آزاد کریں۔ فرمایا: انہیں کہیں کہ دو ماہ مسلسل روزے رکھیں۔ عرض کیا: اللہ کے رسول! وہ بہت بوڑھے ہیں، ان میں روزہ رکھنے کی سکت نہیں۔ فرمایا: تو ساٹھ مسکینوں کو کھانا کھلا دیں۔ میں نے کہا: اللہ کے نبی! ان کے پاس کھلانے کے لیے بھی کچھ نہیں ہے۔ فرمایا: کھجوروں کا ایک ٹوکرا ہم اسے بطور تعاون دیں گے۔ (راوی کہتے ہیں:) عرق بڑے ٹوکرے کو کہتے ہیں، جس میں تیس صاع کھجور آتی ہے۔ میں (خویلہ بنت ثعلبہ) نے کہا: ایک ٹوکرا میں دے دوں گی۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا: آپ نے اچھا کیا، بس وہ اسے صدقہ کر دیں۔[المنتقى ابن الجارود/كتاب الطلاق/حدیث: 746]
