Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: We went out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) on the day of Hunayn. When we engaged the enemy, the Muslims were initially routed. I saw a polytheist overpowering a Muslim, so I circled around and came at him from behind. I struck him on the muscle between his neck and shoulder. He turned on me and squeezed me so hard that I smelled death. Then death overtook him and he released me. I caught up with Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked: What is wrong with the people? He said: It is the decree of Allah. Then the people returned, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sat down and said: "Whoever has killed an enemy and has proof of it, the spoils of the slain belong to him." Abu Qatadah said: I stood up and said: Who will testify for me? Then I sat down. He said it a second time, so I stood up and said: Who will testify for me? Then I sat down. He said it a third time, so I stood up. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: What is the matter, O Abu Qatadah? So I told him the story. A man from the people said: He speaks the truth, O Messenger of Allah, and the spoils of that slain man are with me, so compensate him from his right. Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) said: No, by Allah! He shall not go to one of the lions of Allah who fights for Allah and His Messenger and give you his spoils! The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: He speaks the truth. Give it to him. So he gave it to me. I sold the armor and bought a garden in [the territory of] Banu Salamah. That was the first property I acquired in Islam. The narrator said: A makhraf means a date palm garden.

سیدنا ابو قتادہ رضی اللہ عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ ہم رسول الله صلی الله علیہ وسلم کی معیت میں غزوہ حنین کے لیے روانہ ہوئے، جب ہم برسر پیکار ہوئے تو مسلمانوں میں افراتفری پھیل گئی، کہتے ہیں: میں نے ایک مشرک کو دیکھا کہ اس نے ایک مسلمان کو قابو میں لیا ہوا ہے، میں گھوم کر اس کے پیچھے آیا اور اس کی گردن کے پٹھے پر تلوار کا وار کیا، وہ پلٹ کر میری طرف آیا اور مجھے اتنے زور سے بھینچا کہ مجھے موت کی تلخی یاد آ گئی، پھر اسے موت آ گئی تو اس نے مجھے چھوڑ دیا، میں سیدنا عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ عنہ سے ملا تو انہیں کہا: آج لوگوں کو شکست کیوں ہو گئی ہے؟ انہوں نے کہا: الله تعالیٰ کو یہی منظور تھا۔ کہتے ہیں: پھر سب لوگ واپس آگئے اور رسول الله صلی الله علیہ وسلم تشریف فرما ہوئے تو آپ نے فرمایا: جس نے کسی کافر کو قتل کیا اور اس کے پاس ثبوت بھی ہو تو اس مقتول کا مال و متاع اسی (قاتل) کو ملے گا۔ ابو قتادہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں: میں کھڑا ہو گیا پھر یہ سوچ کر بیٹھ گیا کہ میری گواہی کون دے گا؟ آپ نے (دوبارہ) فرمایا: جس نے کسی کافر کو قتل کیا اور اس کے پاس ثبوت بھی ہو تو اس مقتول کا مال و متاع اسی (قاتل) کو ملے گا۔ (ابو قتادہ) کہتے ہیں: میں کھڑا ہو گیا اور پھر یہ سوچ کر بیٹھ گیا کہ میری گواہی کون دے گا؟ آپ نے تیسری بار پھر یہی فرمایا تو میں کھڑا ہو گیا۔ رسول الله صلی الله علیہ وسلم نے مجھ سے پوچھا: ابو قتادہ! کیا بات ہے؟ کہتے ہیں: میں نے آپ کو پورا واقعہ سنا دیا۔ ایک آدمی کہنے لگا: الله کے رسول! یہ سچ کہتا ہے اور اس مقتول کا مال و متاع میرے پاس ہے، آپ ان کو راضی کر دیں۔ سیدنا ابو بکر صدیق رضی اللہ عنہ کہنے لگے: الله کی قسم! ایسا نہیں ہوگا، آپ ایسا نہیں کریں گے کہ الله کا شیر الله اور اس کے رسول کی حمایت میں جہاد کرے اور مال و متاع تجھے دے دیں۔ رسول الله صلی الله علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: انہوں نے سچ کہا ہے، وہ سامان انہیں (ابو قتادہ کو) دے دیں۔ تو اس نے وہ مال مجھے دے دیا، میں نے ایک زرہ فروخت کر کے (محلہ) بنو سلمہ میں ایک باغ خرید لیا اور یہ وہ پہلا مال ہے جو میں نے اسلام میں حاصل کیا۔ مخرف کھجوروں کے باغ کو کہتے ہیں۔[المنتقى ابن الجارود/كتاب الطلاق/حدیث: 1076]
