Hadrat Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be well pleased with both father and son) narrated: The sun eclipsed during the time of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). He prayed, and the people with him. He stood for a long time with a recitation equivalent to Surat al-Baqarah. Then he bowed for a long time. Then he raised his head and stood for a long time, less than the first standing. Then he bowed for a long time, less than the first bowing. Then he prostrated. Then he stood for the second Rak'ah and did the same. Then he finished, and the sun had become clear. He stated: "The sun and moon are two signs among the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse for the death of anyone nor for his life. When you see that, remember Allah." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, we saw you reach for something in your place, then we saw you step back." He stated: "I saw Paradise and reached for a cluster from it. Had I taken it, you would have eaten from it for as long as the world lasts. And I saw the Fire - I have never seen a sight more horrifying than today - and I saw that most of its inhabitants are women." They asked: "Why, O Messenger of Allah?" He stated: "Due to their ingratitude (kufr)." It was asked: "Do they disbelieve in Allah?" He stated: "They are ungrateful to their husbands and ungrateful for kindness. If you were to do good to one of them forever, then she sees something from you (she dislikes), she will say: 'I have never seen any good from you.'"
