Hadrat Suraqah ibn Malik ibn Ju'shum (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrated: The messengers of the disbelievers of Quraysh came to us, offering the blood-money for each of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and Abu Bakr, for whoever killed or captured them. While I was sitting in a gathering of my people Banu Mudlij, a man approached us and said: "O Suraqah, I have just now seen some dark figures on the coast. I believe them to be Muhammad and his companions." Suraqah said: I knew it was them, but I said: "They are not them. You saw so-and-so who went out." Then I waited a while in the gathering, then got up and entered my house. I ordered my slave-girl to bring out my horse behind the hillock and hold it for me. I took my spear and went out from behind the house, dragging its tip on the ground and keeping it low until I reached my horse. I mounted it and spurred it until I saw their dark figures. When I drew near enough for them to hear my voice, my horse stumbled and I fell from it. I reached into my quiver, drew the divining arrows, and cast lots — and what I disliked came out. I disobeyed the arrows and mounted my horse, spurring it until I heard the recitation of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). He did not turn around, while Abu Bakr kept looking back. Then the hooves of my horse sank into the ground up to the knees, and I fell off. I urged it and it rose, barely able to pull its hooves out. When it stood upright, there was a column of dust rising to the sky. Ma'mar said: I asked Abu 'Amr ibn al-'Ala': "What is 'uthan?" He was silent for a moment, then said: "It is smoke without fire." Al-Zuhri narrated: I cast lots with the divining arrows and what I disliked came out — not to harm them. So I called out to them offering safety. They stopped, and I mounted my horse until I reached them. What I had experienced of being prevented from reaching them had convinced me that the cause of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) would prevail. I told them: "Your people have placed a reward for you." I informed them of what travelers were planning against them. I offered them provisions and goods, but they neither took anything from me nor asked me for anything — except that they said: "Conceal our whereabouts." I asked him to write me a document of peace, and he ordered 'Amir ibn Fuhayrah, who wrote it for me on a piece of white leather.

حضرت سراقہ بن مالک بن جعشم رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے: قریش کے کفار کے قاصد ہمارے پاس آئے اور رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم اور ابوبکر میں سے ہر ایک کو قتل یا گرفتار کرنے والے کے لیے خون بہا مقرر کیا۔ میں اپنی قوم بنی مدلج کی مجلس میں بیٹھا تھا کہ ایک شخص آیا اور بولا: "اے سراقہ! میں نے ابھی ساحل پر کچھ سیاہ اشکال دیکھی ہیں، مجھے لگتا ہے وہ محمد اور ان کے ساتھی ہیں۔" سراقہ نے کہا: مجھے معلوم تھا کہ وہ وہی ہیں لیکن میں نے کہا: "وہ وہ نہیں ہیں، تم نے فلاں فلاں کو دیکھا ہے جو نکلے ہیں۔" پھر مجلس میں کچھ دیر ٹھہرا، پھر اٹھا اور گھر گیا۔ اپنی لونڈی کو حکم دیا کہ میرا گھوڑا ٹیلے کے پیچھے نکالے اور روکے رکھے۔ نیزہ لیا اور گھر کے پچھلے حصے سے نکلا، اسے زمین پر گھسیٹتے ہوئے اور نوک نیچی رکھتے ہوئے گھوڑے تک پہنچا۔ سوار ہوا اور تیز دوڑایا یہاں تک کہ ان کی سیاہ اشکال دکھائی دیں۔ جب آواز سنائی دینے کے قریب پہنچا تو گھوڑا ٹھوکر کھا کر گرا اور میں اس سے گر پڑا۔ ترکش میں ہاتھ ڈالا اور قرعہ نکالا تو جو مجھے ناپسند تھا وہ نکلا۔ میں نے قرعے کی نافرمانی کی اور سوار ہوا اور تیز دوڑایا یہاں تک کہ میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی تلاوت سنی — آپ مڑ کر نہیں دیکھ رہے تھے جبکہ ابوبکر بار بار مڑ کر دیکھ رہے تھے — تو گھوڑے کے اگلے پاؤں زمین میں گھنوں تک دھنس گئے اور میں گر پڑا۔ اسے جھڑکا تو اٹھا لیکن بمشکل پاؤں نکال سکا۔ جب سیدھا کھڑا ہوا تو آسمان کی طرف دھویں کا ستون اٹھا۔ معمر نے کہا: میں نے ابو عمرو بن العلاء سے پوچھا: "عثان کیا ہے؟" وہ خاموش رہے پھر کہا: "بغیر آگ کا دھواں ہے۔" زہری نے اپنی حدیث میں کہا: پھر قرعہ نکالا تو جو مجھے ناپسند تھا وہ نکلا کہ انہیں نقصان نہ پہنچاؤں۔ میں نے انہیں امان دے کر پکارا اور وہ رکے۔ میں سوار ہوا اور ان تک پہنچا۔ جو مجھے ان سے روکا گیا اس سے میرے دل میں آ گیا کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کا معاملہ غالب آئے گا۔ میں نے کہا: "آپ کی قوم نے آپ پر خون بہا رکھا ہے" اور انہیں سفر کی خبریں بتائیں اور لوگ ان کے ساتھ کیا کرنا چاہتے ہیں۔ زاد راہ اور سامان پیش کیا لیکن انہوں نے کچھ نہیں لیا اور صرف یہ کہا: "ہماری خبر چھپاؤ۔" میں نے ان سے صلح نامہ لکھنے کی درخواست کی تو آپ نے عامر بن فہیرہ کو حکم دیا اور انہوں نے سفید چمڑے کے ٹکڑے پر لکھ دیا۔
