أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ الْكَلَاعِيُّ بِحِمْصَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عُثْمَانَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ عَنِ الزُّبَيْدِيِّ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ مَاعِزِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْعَامِرِيِّ أَنَّ سُفْيَانَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الثَّقَفِيَّ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ حَدِّثْنِي بِأَمْرٍ أَعْتَصِمُ بِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «قُلْ رَبِّيَ اللَّهُ ثُمَّ اسْتَقِمْ» قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا أَكْثَرُ مَا تَخَافُ عَلَيَّ؟ فَأَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِلِسَانِ نَفْسِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ «هَذَا» مَ��عِزُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَهُ الزُّبَيْدِيُّ وَهُوَ مُتْقِنٌ

Muhammad ibn Ubayd Allah ibn al-Fadl al-Kala'i in Hims informed us, Amr ibn Uthman narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Harb informed us, from al-Zubaydi, from al-Zuhri, from Ma'iz ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Amiri that Sufyan ibn Abdullah al-Thaqafi said: I said: O Messenger of Allah, tell me something to hold fast to. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Say: My Lord is Allah, then be upright.' I said: O Messenger of Allah, what do you fear most for me? The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) took hold of his own tongue and then said: 'This.' Ma'iz ibn Abd al-Rahman said it, al-Zubaydi said, and he is precise.
