Hadrat Abu Sa'id (al-Khudri) (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrated: The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) led us in the Asr prayer, then stood delivering a sermon from after Asr until sunset. He who memorized it memorized it, and he who forgot it forgot it. He informed therein of all that would come to pass until the Day of Resurrection. He praised Allah the Exalted and extolled Him, then stated: "Now then — verily the world is sweet and green, and Allah the Exalted shall make you successors therein and shall observe how you act. So beware of the world and beware of women. Indeed the children of Adam were created in diverse classes: among them is one who is born a believer, lives a believer, and dies a believer; and among them is one who is born a disbeliever, lives a disbeliever, and dies a disbeliever; and among them is one who is born a believer, lives a believer, and dies a disbeliever; and among them is one who is born a disbeliever, lives a disbeliever, and dies a believer. Indeed anger is an ember kindled in the heart of the son of Adam — have you not seen the redness of his eyes and the swelling of his veins? When any of you feels something of that, let him press himself to the ground. Indeed the best of men is he who is slow to anger and quick to calm, and the worst of men is he who is quick to anger and slow to calm. If a man is quick to anger and quick to calm, one offsets the other; and if a man is slow to anger and slow to calm, one offsets the other. Indeed the best of merchants is he who is good in repaying debts and good in requesting payment, and the worst of merchants is he who is bad in repaying and bad in requesting. If a man is good in repaying and bad in requesting, one offsets the other; and if a man is bad in repaying and good in requesting, one offsets the other. Let not the fear of people prevent a man from speaking the truth when he knows it. Indeed every traitor shall have a banner on the Day of Resurrection proportionate to his treachery. Indeed the greatest treachery is the treachery of a public leader. Indeed the traitor's banner shall be at his backside. Indeed the most excellent jihad is a word of truth spoken before a tyrannical ruler." When it was near sunset, he stated: "Indeed the likeness of what remains of this world compared to what has passed of it is like the likeness of what remains of this day compared to what has passed."

حضرت ابو سعید (خدری) رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ہمیں عصر کی نماز پڑھائی، پھر عصر کے بعد سے غروب آفتاب تک خطبہ ارشاد فرماتے رہے۔ جس نے یاد رکھا اس نے یاد رکھا اور جو بھول گیا وہ بھول گیا۔ آپ نے اس میں قیامت تک ہونے والی ہر بات بتائی۔ آپ نے اللہ تعالیٰ کی حمد و ثنا بیان فرمائی، پھر فرمایا: «امّا بعد! دنیا میٹھی اور سرسبز ہے، اور بے شک اللہ تعالیٰ تمہیں اس میں خلیفہ بنانے والا ہے تاکہ دیکھے تم کیسے عمل کرتے ہو۔ سنو! دنیا سے بچو اور عورتوں سے بچو۔ سنو! بنی آدم مختلف طبقات پر پیدا کیے گئے: ان میں سے کوئی مومن پیدا ہوتا ہے، مومن جیتا ہے اور مومن مرتا ہے۔ کوئی کافر پیدا ہوتا ہے، کافر جیتا ہے اور کافر مرتا ہے۔ کوئی مومن پیدا ہوتا ہے، مومن جیتا ہے اور کافر مرتا ہے۔ کوئی کافر پیدا ہوتا ہے، کافر جیتا ہے اور مومن مرتا ہے۔ سنو! غصہ ایک انگارہ ہے جو ابن آدم کے سینے میں بھڑکایا جاتا ہے — کیا تم نے اس کی آنکھوں کی سرخی اور رگوں کا پھولنا نہیں دیکھا؟ جب تم میں سے کسی کو ایسا محسوس ہو تو زمین سے لگ جائے۔ سنو! بہترین مرد وہ ہے جو دیر سے غصے ہو اور جلد ٹھنڈا ہو، اور بدترین مرد وہ ہے جو جلد غصے ہو اور دیر سے ٹھنڈا ہو۔ اگر آدمی جلد غصے ہو اور جلد ٹھنڈا بھی ہو تو ایک دوسرے کو کاٹ دیتی ہے۔ اگر دیر سے غصے ہو اور دیر سے ٹھنڈا بھی ہو تو ایک دوسرے کو کاٹ دیتی ہے۔ سنو! بہترین تاجر وہ ہے جو قرض ادا کرنے میں اچھا ہو اور مانگنے میں اچھا ہو، اور بدترین تاجر وہ ہے جو ادائیگی میں بھی برا ہو اور مانگنے میں بھی برا ہو۔ اگر آدمی ادائیگی میں اچھا ہو اور مانگنے میں برا ہو تو ایک دوسرے کو کاٹ دیتی ہے۔ اگر ادائیگی میں برا ہو اور مانگنے میں اچھا ہو تو ایک دوسرے کو کاٹ دیتی ہے۔ سنو! لوگوں کا خوف کسی آدمی کو سچ بولنے سے نہ روکے جب وہ اسے جانتا ہو۔ سنو! ہر دغاباز کے لیے قیامت کے دن اس کی دغابازی کے بقدر ایک جھنڈا ہوگا۔ سنو! سب سے بڑی دغابازی عام لوگوں کے حکمران کی دغابازی ہے۔ سنو! دغاباز کا جھنڈا اس کے پیچھے ہوگا۔ سنو! سب سے افضل جہاد ظالم حکمران کے سامنے سچا کلمہ ہے۔» جب غروب کا وقت ہوا تو فرمایا: «دنیا میں جو باقی ہے اس کی مثال جو گزر چکا اس کے مقابلے میں ایسے ہے جیسے تمہارے اس دن میں جو باقی ہے اس کی مثال جو گزر چکا اس کے مقابلے میں۔»
