Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Sinan al-Qazzaz narrated to us, Abu Asim and Sa'd ibn Amir both narrated to us, al-Muthanna ibn Sa'id al-Qasir narrated to us, Abu Jamra narrated to me who said: Hadrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be well pleased with them both) said to us: "Shall I not inform you about the Islam of Hadrat Abu Dharr (may Allah be well pleased with him)?" We said: "Yes, indeed." He said: Hadrat Abu Dharr (may Allah be well pleased with him) said: "I was a man from the tribe of Ghifar. News reached us that a man had appeared in Makkah claiming to be a Prophet. I said to my brother: 'Go to this man, speak to him, and bring me his news.' So he went and met him, then returned. I asked: 'What news do you have?' He said: 'By Allah, I saw a man who commands good and forbids evil.' I said: 'You have not satisfied me with this information.' So I took a waterskin and a staff and set out for Makkah. I did not know him and I disliked asking about him. I drank from Zamzam water and stayed in the mosque. Hadrat Ali al-Murtada (may Allah ennoble his countenance) passed by me and said: 'It seems you are a stranger.' I said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Come to the house.' He took me but neither of us asked the other anything until morning. Then I went to the mosque and stayed until evening. The Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) passed by me and said: 'Has the man not found his destination yet?' I said: 'No.' He stated: 'Come with me.' He took me and said: 'What is your affair and what has brought you to this land?' I said: 'If you keep it secret for me, I shall tell you.' He stated: 'I shall do so.' I said: 'It has reached us that a man has appeared here claiming to be a Prophet. I sent my brother to speak to him and he returned without bringing me satisfying news, so I came to meet him myself.' He stated: 'You have found him. I am he. Indeed, Allah the Exalted has guided me.' I said: 'I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that you are the Messenger of Allah.' He stated: 'Return to your people and inform them until my command reaches you.' I said: 'By the One in whose hand is my soul, I shall proclaim it openly among them.' So I went out to the mosque and called out at the top of my voice: 'I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.' The people attacked me and beat me until I fell unconscious. Al-Abbas came and shielded me, saying: 'Woe to you! Do you not know he is from Ghifar and your trade route passes through them?' I was revived from my unconsciousness."

ابو العباس محمد بن یعقوب نے ہمیں بیان کیا، محمد بن سنان قزاز نے ہمیں بیان کیا، ابو عاصم اور سعد بن عامر دونوں نے ہمیں بیان کیا، مثنیٰ بن سعید قصیر نے ہمیں بیان کیا، ابو جمرہ نے مجھے بیان کیا، فرمایا: حضرت ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما نے ہم سے فرمایا: «کیا میں تمہیں حضرت ابو ذر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کے اسلام کے بارے میں نہ بتاؤں؟» ہم نے کہا: ضرور۔ فرمایا: حضرت ابو ذر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے فرمایا: «میں قبیلہ غفار کا آدمی تھا۔ ہمیں خبر پہنچی کہ مکہ میں ایک شخص ظاہر ہوا ہے جو نبوت کا دعویٰ کرتا ہے۔ میں نے اپنے بھائی سے کہا: اس شخص کے پاس جاؤ، اس سے بات کرو اور خبر لاؤ۔ وہ گیا اور ملاقات کی پھر واپس آیا۔ میں نے پوچھا: کیا خبر لائے؟ کہا: بخدا میں نے ایک شخص دیکھا جو نیکی کا حکم دیتا ہے اور برائی سے روکتا ہے۔ میں نے کہا: تم نے مجھے تسلی نہیں دی۔ تو میں نے مشکیزہ اور لاٹھی لی اور مکہ کی طرف چل پڑا۔ میں انہیں نہیں جانتا تھا اور پوچھنا بھی پسند نہیں کرتا تھا۔ میں نے زمزم کا پانی پیا اور مسجد میں ٹھہر گیا۔ حضرت علی المرتضیٰ کرّم اللہ تعالیٰ وجہہ الکریم میرے پاس سے گزرے اور فرمایا: لگتا ہے تم مسافر ہو۔ میں نے کہا: ہاں۔ فرمایا: گھر چلو۔ مجھے ساتھ لے گئے اور ہم میں سے کسی نے کسی سے صبح تک کچھ نہیں پوچھا۔ پھر میں مسجد گیا اور شام تک رہا۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم میرے پاس سے گزرے اور ارشاد فرمایا: کیا آدمی نے ابھی تک اپنی منزل نہیں پائی؟ میں نے کہا: نہیں۔ ارشاد فرمایا: میرے ساتھ آؤ۔ مجھے ساتھ لے گئے اور ارشاد فرمایا: تمہارا کیا معاملہ ہے اور اس سرزمین پر کیا لے آیا؟ میں نے کہا: اگر آپ میری بات چھپائیں تو بتاتا ہوں۔ ارشاد فرمایا: میں ایسا کروں گا۔ میں نے کہا: ہمیں خبر پہنچی ہے کہ یہاں ایک شخص ظاہر ہوا ہے جو نبوت کا دعویٰ کرتا ہے۔ میں نے اپنے بھائی کو بھیجا مگر وہ تسلی بخش خبر نہ لایا تو خود آیا ہوں۔ ارشاد فرمایا: تم نے پا لیا، میں وہی ہوں۔ بے شک اللہ تعالیٰ نے مجھے ہدایت دی ہے۔ میں نے کہا: میں گواہی دیتا ہوں کہ اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں اور آپ اللہ کے رسول ہیں۔ ارشاد فرمایا: اپنی قوم کے پاس واپس جاؤ اور انہیں خبر دو یہاں تک کہ میرا حکم تمہیں پہنچے۔ میں نے کہا: اس ذات کی قسم جس کے ہاتھ میں میری جان ہے! میں ان کے سامنے بلند آواز سے اعلان کروں گا۔ تو میں مسجد گیا اور بلند آواز سے پکارا: میں گواہی دیتا ہوں کہ اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں اور محمد اللہ کے رسول ہیں۔ لوگ مجھ پر ٹوٹ پڑے اور مارتے رہے یہاں تک کہ میں بے ہوش ہو گیا۔ عباس آئے اور مجھ پر جھکے اور کہا: تمہاری خرابی ہو! تمہیں معلوم نہیں کہ یہ غفار سے ہے اور تمہارا تجارتی راستہ ان سے ہوکر گزرتا ہے؟ پھر مجھے ہوش آیا۔»
