Ayman narrated: 'I said to Hadrat Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be well pleased with him): Tell me a hadith from the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) that you heard from him, so that I may narrate it from you. Jabir said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) on the day of the Trench, digging it. We stayed three days without tasting any food and unable to find any. Then a hard rock appeared in the trench. I came to the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and submitted: O Messenger of Allah, a hard rock has appeared in the trench. We sprinkled water on it. The Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stood up with a stone tied to his blessed belly, took the pickaxe or the shovel, then said Bismillah three times and struck it, and it turned into flowing sand. When I saw that from the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), I submitted: O Messenger of Allah, give me permission (to go home). He permitted me. I went to my wife and said: Your mother may lose you! I have seen something from the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) that I cannot bear. Do you have any food? She said: I have a sa' (measure) of barley and a young goat. So we ground the barley, slaughtered and skinned the goat, and put it in the pot. I kneaded the barley dough and returned to the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). I waited for a while, then asked permission a second time. He permitted me and I went — the dough was ready. I told her to bake, and I placed the pot on the trivet. Then I came to the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and submitted: We have a little food. If you would like, come with me — you and one or two men with you. He stated: "How much is it?" I said: A sa' of barley and a young goat. He stated: "Go back to your wife and tell her not to remove the pot from the trivet and not to take the bread out of the oven until I come." Then he stated to the people: "Rise and go to the house of Jabir." I was so embarrassed that only Allah knows. I said to my wife: Your mother may lose you! The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) has come with all his Companions! She said: Did the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) ask you how much food there is? I said: Yes. She said: Allah and His Messenger know best. You told him what we have. Some of my anxiety left me, and I said: You have spoken the truth. The Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) came and entered, then told his Companions: "Do not crowd." Then he blessed the oven and the pot. We kept taking bread from the oven and meat from the pot, crumbling the bread and ladling out for them. The Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: "Let seven or eight sit at each dish." When they finished eating, we would uncover the oven and the pot to find them fuller than before. We kept doing this — every time we opened the oven and uncovered the pot, we found them fuller than they had been — until all the Muslims ate to their fill, and a portion of food remained. The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated to us: "The people have been struck by famine, so eat and feed others." We kept eating and feeding others that whole day. He told me they were eight hundred — or he said three hundred. Ayman said: I do not know which number he said. Then the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) asked about my creditor and the dates, blessed the payment, and Allah fulfilled the debt with surplus remaining. Later the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) asked Umar ibn al-Khattab to ask Jabir about his creditor, but Umar said: I will not ask him; I knew Allah would fulfill it since you said Allah would. The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) repeated it three times, and each time Umar said the same. On the third time he finally asked, and Jabir confirmed that Allah had fulfilled the debt with surplus. When Jabir returned home, his wife said: Do you think Allah would bring His Prophet to our house and he would leave without my asking for his blessings upon me and my husband?'

ایمن نے بیان کیا: میں نے حضرت جابر بن عبداللہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے کہا: مجھے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سے سنی ہوئی کوئی حدیث سنائیں تاکہ میں آپ سے روایت کروں۔ جابر نے فرمایا: ہم خندق کے دن رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے ساتھ خندق کھود رہے تھے۔ تین دن گزرے ہم نے کچھ نہیں کھایا اور کھانا نہیں مل رہا تھا۔ خندق میں ایک سخت چٹان آ گئی۔ میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے پاس آیا اور عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! خندق میں ایک سخت چٹان آ گئی ہے، ہم نے اس پر پانی چھڑکا۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کھڑے ہوئے اور آپ کے مبارک پیٹ پر پتھر بندھا ہوا تھا۔ آپ نے کدال یا بیلچہ لیا، تین بار بسم اللہ کہا اور مارا تو وہ چٹان بہتے ہوئے ریت کا ٹیلا بن گئی۔ جب میں نے یہ دیکھا تو عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! مجھے اجازت دیجیے۔ آپ نے اجازت دی۔ میں اپنی بیوی کے پاس آیا اور کہا: تمہاری ماں تمہیں کھوئے! میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سے ایسی چیز دیکھی ہے جس پر صبر نہیں ہوتا۔ تمہارے پاس کچھ ہے؟ اس نے کہا: میرے پاس ایک صاع جو اور ایک بکری کا بچہ ہے۔ ہم نے جو پیسے، بکری ذبح کی، کھال اتاری اور ہانڈی میں رکھی اور جو کا آٹا گوندھا۔ پھر میں نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے پاس واپس آیا، تھوڑی دیر ٹھہرا، پھر دوبارہ اجازت لی تو آٹا تیار ہو چکا تھا۔ میں نے بیوی کو روٹی پکانے کا حکم دیا اور ہانڈی اٹھان پر رکھی۔ پھر نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے پاس آیا اور عرض کیا: ہمارے پاس تھوڑا سا کھانا ہے، اگر آپ ایک دو آدمیوں کے ساتھ تشریف لائیں۔ آپ نے فرمایا: کتنا ہے؟ میں نے کہا: ایک صاع جو اور ایک بکری کا بچہ۔ آپ نے فرمایا: اپنے گھر والوں کے پاس جاؤ اور کہو کہ ہانڈی اٹھان سے نہ اتاریں اور روٹیاں تنور سے نہ نکالیں جب تک میں نہ آ جاؤں۔ پھر لوگوں سے فرمایا: چلو جابر کے گھر۔ مجھے اتنی شرم آئی جو صرف اللہ جانتا ہے۔ میں نے بیوی سے کہا: تمہاری ماں تمہیں کھوئے! رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم تمام صحابہ کے ساتھ آ گئے۔ اس نے پوچھا: کیا نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے کھانے کی مقدار پوچھی تھی؟ میں نے کہا: ہاں۔ اس نے کہا: اللہ اور اس کا رسول بہتر جانتے ہیں، تم نے بتا دیا تھا جو ہمارے پاس تھا۔ میری تھوڑی پریشانی دور ہوئی اور میں نے کہا: تم نے سچ کہا۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم تشریف لائے اور اندر آئے، صحابہ سے فرمایا: بھیڑ نہ لگاؤ۔ پھر آپ نے تنور اور ہانڈی پر برکت کی دعا فرمائی۔ ہم تنور سے روٹی نکالتے اور ہانڈی سے گوشت نکالتے، ثرید بناتے اور ان کے لیے نکالتے۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ہر پیالے پر سات آٹھ آدمی بیٹھیں۔ جب وہ کھا لیتے تو ہم تنور اور ہانڈی کھولتے تو وہ پہلے سے زیادہ بھری ہوتیں۔ ہم ایسا ہی کرتے رہے، جب بھی تنور کھولتے اور ہانڈی سے ڈھکن اٹھاتے تو پہلے سے زیادہ بھری ملتیں، یہاں تک کہ سب مسلمانوں نے پیٹ بھر کر کھایا اور پھر بھی کھانا بچ رہا۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ہم سے فرمایا: لوگوں کو بھوک لگی ہے، کھاؤ اور کھلاؤ۔ ہم سارا دن کھاتے اور کھلاتے رہے۔ انہوں نے بتایا کہ وہ آٹھ سو تھے یا تین سو۔ ایمن نے کہا: مجھے نہیں معلوم کون سی تعداد بتائی۔
