Hadrat Buraidah (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrated through his son Ibn Buraidah that the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) used to stand for long periods while delivering sermons, which was difficult for him. So a palm tree trunk was brought and set up beside him for the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) to lean against during long sermons. A man who had come to Madinah saw him standing beside the trunk and said to those near him: 'If I knew that Muhammad would appreciate something that would make him comfortable, I would make a seat for him. He could sit when he wished and stand when he wished.' This reached the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), who stated: 'Bring him to me.' He was brought, and the Prophet ordered him to make these three or four steps that are now on the pulpit of Madinah. The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) found comfort in it. But when the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) left the trunk and moved to the newly made pulpit, the trunk became distressed and moaned like a she-camel when the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) left it. Ibn Buraidah narrated from his father that when the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) heard the moaning of the trunk, he went back to it, placed his blessed hand on it, and stated: 'Choose: either I plant you back in the place where you were, and you will be as you were, or if you wish, I will plant you in Paradise, where you will drink from its rivers and springs, your growth will be beautiful, you will bear fruit, and the friends of Allah will eat from your fruit and dates.' He claimed that he heard the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) saying to it: 'Yes, I have done so — twice.' When the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) was asked, he stated: 'It chose that I plant it in Paradise.'

حضرت بریدہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے ان کے بیٹے ابن بریدہ کے واسطے سے روایت ہے کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم جب خطبہ دیتے تو کھڑے ہو کر دیر تک کھڑے رہتے، اس سے آپ کو تکلیف ہوتی۔ پس ایک کھجور کا تنا لایا گیا اور آپ کے پہلو میں گاڑ دیا گیا تاکہ آپ سہارا لے سکیں۔ مدینہ آنے والے ایک شخص نے آپ کو اس تنے کے ساتھ کھڑا دیکھا اور اپنے قریب والوں سے کہا: اگر مجھے معلوم ہو کہ محمد (صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) خوش ہوں گے تو میں ان کے لیے ایک نشست بناؤں جس پر وہ چاہیں تو بیٹھیں اور چاہیں تو کھڑے ہوں۔ یہ بات نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم تک پہنچی تو آپ نے فرمایا: اسے میرے پاس لاؤ۔ اسے لایا گیا اور آپ نے اسے حکم دیا کہ یہ تین یا چار سیڑھیاں بنائے جو اب مدینے کے منبر پر ہیں۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو اس سے آرام ملا۔ جب آپ نے تنے کو چھوڑا اور نئے منبر کی طرف آئے تو تنا غمزدہ ہوا اور اونٹنی کی طرح رونے لگا جب آپ نے اسے چھوڑا۔ ابن بریدہ نے اپنے والد سے روایت کیا کہ جب نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے تنے کا رونا سنا تو واپس آئے، اس پر ہاتھ رکھا اور فرمایا: تو اختیار کر: یا میں تجھے اس جگہ واپس لگا دوں جہاں تو تھا اور تو پہلے جیسا ہو جائے، اور اگر تو چاہے تو میں تجھے جنت میں لگا دوں جہاں تو اس کی نہروں اور چشموں سے پئے اور تیری نشوونما اچھی ہو اور تو پھلے اور اللہ کے دوست تیرے پھل اور کھجور کھائیں۔ راوی کہتے ہیں کہ انہوں نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو سنا وہ اس سے فرما رہے تھے: ہاں میں نے ایسا کیا — دو بار۔ جب نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سے پوچھا گیا تو فرمایا: اس نے اختیار کیا کہ میں اسے جنت میں لگاؤں۔
