Abu Thalaba al-Khushani (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "I said, 'O Messenger of Allah! We live in the land of the People of the Book; may we eat from their vessels (or not)? And we live in a land of hunting; may we hunt with bow and arrow, and with trained dogs and untrained dogs, or not? Whatever is correct (please tell us).' He (peace be upon him) said, 'As for what you mentioned about the People of the Book, (the answer is this:) if you can find vessels other than theirs, then do not eat from theirs, and if you cannot find any, then wash them well and eat from them. And as for hunting: if you hunt game with an arrow and pronounce Bismillah, then eat it; and if you released a trained dog with Bismillah and it caught the game, then eating it is lawful; and if (you did not pronounce Bismillah, and) the dog was not trained, then it is lawful to eat after slaughtering.'"
اردو ترجمہ
سیدنا ابوثعلبہ خشنی رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہمیں نے عرض کی”یا رسول اللہ! ہم اہل کتاب کے ملک میں رہتے ہیں تو کیا ان کے برتنوں میں ہم کھا لیں (یا نہیں) اور ہم شکار کے جنگل میں رہتے ہیں تو کیا ہم تیر کمان یا سکھلائے ہوئے کتے اور بغیر سکھلائے ہوئے کتے سے شکار کر سکتے ہیں یا نہیں، جو درست ہو (فرما دیجئیے)۔“آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا:”اہل کتاب کا جو تم نے ذکر کیا تھا تو (اس کا یہ جواب ہے) اگر ان کے برتنوں کے سوا تمہیں اور برتن مل جائیں تو ان میں نہ کھایا کرو اور اگر نہ ملیں تو پھر ان کو اچھی طرح دھو کر ان میں کھا لو اور (شکایت کی نسبت یہ ہے کہ اگر) تیر سے جو شکار کیا تم بسم اللہ پڑھ کر کرو تو اسے کھا لو اور اگر سکھلائے ہوئے کتے کو بسم اللہ پڑھ کر چھوڑا اور شکار کیا تو یہ کھانا درست ہے اور اگر (بسم اللہ نہیں پڑھی اور) یہ کتا سکھلایا ہوا نہ تھا تو بعد ذبح کے کھانا درست ہے۔“[مختصر صحيح بخاري/حدیث: 1916]
