Hadrat Samura bin Jundab (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrates that the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) would often say to his Companions: 'Has anyone among you seen a dream?' Then whoever Allah willed would narrate his dream. One morning he (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) declared: 'Last night two visitors came to me, woke me up, and said: Come with us! So I went with them. We came upon a man lying down with another man standing over his head holding a large rock. He would hurl the rock at the man's head and crush it, and the rock would roll away. He would follow the rock, retrieve it, and by the time he returned, the man's head would be restored as before. Then he would do the same again. I asked them: Glory be to Allah! Who are these two? They said: Proceed! We proceeded and came upon a man lying on his back with another man standing over him holding an iron hook. He would go to one side of the man's face and tear his jaw to the back of his neck, his nostril to the back of his neck, and his eye to the back of his neck — Abu Raja' sometimes narrated it as "he would split" — then he would turn to the other side and do the same. No sooner would he finish one side than the other side would be restored, and he would repeat it. I said: Glory be to Allah! Who are these two? They said: Proceed! We proceeded and came upon something resembling an oven — the narrator says, I believe he said — in which there was clamor and voices. We looked in and found naked men and women, with flames reaching them from below. When the flames reached them, they would scream. I asked: Who are these? They said: Proceed! We proceeded and came upon a river — I believe he said — red like blood. In the river a man was swimming, and on the bank was a man who had gathered many stones. The swimmer would swim up to the man on the bank, who would force open his mouth and shove a stone into it. He would swim away, then return, and each time he returned, the same would be done. I asked: Who are these two? They said: Proceed! We proceeded and came upon a man of the most repulsive appearance — the most repulsive you have ever seen. Beside him was a fire which he was stoking and running around. I asked: What is this? They said: Proceed! We proceeded and came upon a lush green garden with every kind of spring blossom. In the midst of the garden was a very tall man — so tall I could barely see his head reaching into the sky — and around him were more children than I had ever seen. I asked: Who is this? Who are these? They said: Proceed! We proceeded until we reached an enormous garden — greater and more beautiful than any I had ever seen. They said to me: Ascend into it! So we ascended and reached a city built of bricks of gold and bricks of silver. We came to the city gate and asked for it to be opened, and it was opened. We entered and were met by men half of whose bodies were as handsome as the handsomest you have ever seen, and the other half as ugly as the ugliest. My two companions told them: Go and plunge into that river! There was a river flowing across, its water white as pure milk. They went and plunged in, then returned to us with the ugliness gone, and they were in the finest form. My two companions said to me: This is the Garden of Eden, and that is your abode. My gaze rose upward, and behold — a palace like a white cloud! They said: That is your abode. I said to them: May Allah bless you both! Let me enter it. They said: Not now, but you shall surely enter it. I said: I have seen wondrous things tonight; what is the meaning of all I have seen? They said: We shall inform you. The first man whose head was being crushed with a rock — he is one who learned the Quran then abandoned it and slept through the obligatory prayers. The man whose jaw, nostril, and eye were being torn to the back of his neck — he is one who goes out in the morning from his house and tells a lie that spreads across the world. The naked men and women in the oven-like structure — they are the adulterers and adulteresses. The man swimming in the river who was fed stones — he is the consumer of usury. The repulsive man stoking the fire and running around it — he is Malik, the gatekeeper of Hell. The tall man in the garden — he is Ibrahim (upon him be peace and blessings). And the children around him — every child who died upon the natural disposition (fitra).' Some Muslims asked: 'O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! Even the children of the polytheists?' The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) declared: 'Even the children of the polytheists. And the people who were half handsome and half ugly — they are those who mixed righteous deeds with evil ones, but Allah pardoned them.'

حضرت سمرہ بن جندب رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم اکثر صحابۂ کرام سے ارشاد فرمایا کرتے تھے: کیا تم میں سے کسی نے کوئی خواب دیکھا ہے؟ تو جسے اللہ تعالیٰ توفیق دیتا وہ اپنا خواب بیان کرتا۔ ایک صبح آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: آج رات میرے پاس دو آنے والے آئے اور انہوں نے مجھے اٹھایا اور مجھ سے کہا: چلیے! تو میں ان کے ساتھ چل دیا۔ ہم ایک لیٹے ہوئے شخص کے پاس پہنچے، اس کے سر پر ایک دوسرا شخص پتھر لیے کھڑا تھا۔ وہ اس کے سر پر پتھر مارتا تو اس کا سر کچل جاتا اور پتھر لڑھک کر دور چلا جاتا۔ وہ شخص پتھر کے پیچھے جاتا اور اسے اٹھا لاتا، اور ابھی اس کے پاس واپس نہ پہنچتا کہ اس کا سر پہلے جیسا ٹھیک ہو جاتا۔ پھر وہ اسی طرح دوبارہ کرتا جیسا پہلے کیا تھا۔ میں نے ان دونوں سے پوچھا: سبحان اللہ! یہ دونوں کون ہیں؟ انہوں نے کہا: آگے چلیے! ہم آگے بڑھے اور ایک ایسے شخص کے پاس پہنچے جو پیٹھ کے بل لیٹا ہوا تھا، اس کے سر پر ایک دوسرا شخص لوہے کا آنکڑا لیے کھڑا تھا۔ وہ اس کے چہرے کے ایک طرف آتا اور اس کا جبڑا گدی تک چیر دیتا، اس کی ناک گدی تک اور آنکھ گدی تک چیر دیتا — ابورجاء نے بعض اوقات «فيشق» (پھاڑتا) کا لفظ بیان کیا — پھر وہ دوسری جانب جاتا اور ویسا ہی کرتا جیسا پہلی جانب کیا تھا۔ ابھی دوسری جانب سے فارغ نہ ہوتا کہ پہلی جانب اپنی اصلی حالت میں لوٹ آتی، پھر دوبارہ اسی طرح کرتا۔ میں نے کہا: سبحان اللہ! یہ دونوں کون ہیں؟ انہوں نے کہا: آگے چلیے! ہم آگے بڑھے اور ایک تنور جیسی چیز کے پاس پہنچے — راوی کہتے ہیں میرا خیال ہے آپ نے فرمایا — اس میں شور و غوغا تھا۔ ہم نے جھانک کر دیکھا تو اس میں ننگے مرد اور عورتیں تھیں اور نیچے سے آگ کی لپٹ ان تک پہنچتی تھی۔ جب لپٹ ان تک آتی تو وہ چیخ اٹھتے۔ میں نے پوچھا: یہ کون ہیں؟ انہوں نے کہا: آگے چلیے! ہم آگے بڑھے اور ایک نہر کے پاس پہنچے — میرا خیال ہے آپ نے فرمایا — خون کی طرح سرخ۔ اس نہر میں ایک شخص تیر رہا تھا اور کنارے پر ایک اور شخص نے بہت سے پتھر جمع کر رکھے تھے۔ تیرنے والا تیرتا ہوا جب اس کے پاس آتا تو اپنا منہ کھولتا اور وہ اس کے منہ میں پتھر ڈال دیتا۔ پھر وہ تیرتا ہوا واپس آتا اور ہر بار لوٹنے پر وہی صورت دہرائی جاتی۔ میں نے پوچھا: یہ دونوں کون ہیں؟ انہوں نے کہا: آگے چلیے! ہم آگے بڑھے اور ایک نہایت بدصورت شخص کے پاس پہنچے — جتنے بدصورت تم نے دیکھے ہوں ان میں سب سے زیادہ بدصورت — اس کے پاس آگ تھی جسے وہ بھڑکا رہا تھا اور اس کے چاروں طرف دوڑ رہا تھا۔ میں نے پوچھا: یہ کیا ہے؟ انہوں نے کہا: آگے چلیے! ہم آگے بڑھے اور ایک سرسبز باغ میں پہنچے جس میں موسم بہار کے ہر قسم کے پھول تھے۔ اس باغ کے وسط میں ایک بہت لمبا شخص تھا — اتنا لمبا کہ آسمان کی بلندی کے سبب اس کا سر مشکل سے نظر آتا تھا — اور اس کے چاروں طرف اتنے بچے تھے جتنے میں نے کبھی نہیں دیکھے۔ میں نے پوچھا: یہ کون ہیں؟ انہوں نے کہا: آگے چلیے! ہم آگے بڑھے اور ایک عظیم الشان باغ تک پہنچے — اتنا بڑا اور خوبصورت باغ میں نے کبھی نہیں دیکھا تھا۔ انہوں نے مجھ سے کہا: اوپر چڑھیے! ہم اوپر چڑھے اور ایک شہر تک پہنچے جو سونے اور چاندی کی اینٹوں سے بنا ہوا تھا۔ ہم شہر کے دروازے پر آئے اور کھلوایا تو دروازہ کھول دیا گیا۔ ہم اندر داخل ہوئے تو ایسے لوگوں نے ہمارا استقبال کیا جن کا آدھا جسم انتہائی خوبصورت تھا اور آدھا انتہائی بدصورت۔ ان دونوں ساتھیوں نے ان لوگوں سے کہا: جاؤ اور اس نہر میں کود جاؤ! ایک نہر سامنے بہہ رہی تھی جس کا پانی دودھ کی طرح سفید تھا۔ وہ لوگ گئے اور اس میں کود گئے، پھر ہمارے پاس لوٹ کر آئے تو ان کی بدصورتی جا چکی تھی اور وہ بہترین صورت میں ہو گئے۔ ان دونوں نے مجھ سے کہا: یہ جنت عدن ہے اور یہ آپ کی منزل ہے۔ میری نظر اوپر اٹھی تو سفید بادل جیسا ایک محل نظر آیا۔ انہوں نے کہا: یہ آپ کی منزل ہے۔ میں نے کہا: اللہ تعالیٰ تم دونوں کو برکت دے! مجھے اس میں داخل ہونے دو۔ انہوں نے کہا: ابھی نہیں، لیکن آپ ضرور داخل ہوں گے۔ میں نے کہا: آج رات میں نے عجائبات دیکھے ہیں، یہ سب کیا تھا جو میں نے دیکھا؟ انہوں نے کہا: ہم آپ کو بتاتے ہیں۔ پہلا شخص جس کا سر پتھر سے کچلا جا رہا تھا — وہ قرآن مجید سیکھ کر اسے چھوڑ دینے والا اور فرض نماز چھوڑ کر سو جانے والا ہے۔ اور وہ شخص جس کا جبڑا، ناک اور آنکھ گدی تک چیری جا رہی تھی — وہ ایسا شخص ہے جو صبح گھر سے نکلتا ہے اور ایسا جھوٹ بولتا ہے جو دنیا بھر میں پھیل جاتا ہے۔ اور وہ ننگے مرد اور عورتیں جو تنور جیسی جگہ میں تھے — وہ زنا کار مرد اور عورتیں ہیں۔ اور وہ شخص جو نہر میں تیر رہا تھا اور جس کے منہ میں پتھر ڈالا جاتا تھا — وہ سود خور ہے۔ اور وہ بدصورت شخص جو آگ بھڑکا رہا اور اس کے چاروں طرف دوڑ رہا تھا — وہ مالک ہے جو جہنم کا داروغہ ہے۔ اور وہ لمبا شخص جو باغ میں تھا — وہ حضرت ابراہیم علیہ الصلوٰۃ والسلام ہیں۔ اور ان کے چاروں طرف جو بچے تھے — وہ ہر وہ بچہ ہے جو فطرت پر فوت ہوا۔ بعض مسلمانوں نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! کیا مشرکین کے بچے بھی ان میں ہیں؟ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: ہاں، مشرکین کے بچے بھی۔ اور جو لوگ آدھے خوبصورت اور آدھے بدصورت تھے — وہ ایسے لوگ ہیں جنہوں نے نیک عمل میں برا عمل ملا دیا تھا، لیکن اللہ تعالیٰ نے انہیں معاف فرما دیا۔
