Hadrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be well pleased with them both) narrates that the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) declared to Hadrat Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be well pleased with him) when he sent him to Yemen, 'You will come to a people of the People of the Book. When you reach them, invite them to testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) is the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). If they obey you in that, inform them that Allah has enjoined upon them five daily prayers in every day and night. If they obey you in that, inform them that Allah has enjoined upon them Sadaqah (Zakat) which is taken from their wealthy and given to their poor. If they obey you in that, beware of taking their best properties, and fear the supplication of the oppressed, for there is no veil between it and Allah.'
اردو ترجمہ
حضرت ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما فرماتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے حضرت معاذ بن جبل رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے ارشاد فرمایا جب انہیں یمن بھیجا: تم اہل کتاب کی ایک قوم کے پاس جاؤ گے۔ جب ان کے پاس پہنچو تو انہیں اس بات کی گواہی دینے کی دعوت دو کہ اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں اور محمد (صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) اللہ کے رسول ہیں۔ اگر وہ اس میں تمہاری اطاعت کریں تو انہیں بتاؤ کہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے ان پر ہر دن اور رات میں پانچ نمازیں فرض کی ہیں۔ اگر وہ اس میں تمہاری اطاعت کریں تو انہیں بتاؤ کہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے ان پر صدقہ (زکوٰۃ) فرض کیا ہے جو ان کے مالداروں سے لیا جائے گا اور ان کے فقراء کو دیا جائے گا۔ اگر وہ اس میں بھی تمہاری اطاعت کریں تو ان کے عمدہ مال سے بچنا اور مظلوم کی بددعا سے ڈرنا کیونکہ اس کے اور اللہ تعالیٰ کے درمیان کوئی پردہ نہیں ہے۔

وعن معاذ رضي الله عنه قال: بعثني رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم إلى اليمن فقال:
"إنك تأتي قومًا من أهل الكتاب، فادعهم إلى شهادة أن لا إله إلا الله وأني رسول الله، فإن هم أطاعو…
