Sa'id bin Jubayr (upon him be mercy) narrates: I said to Hadrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be well pleased with them both): Nawf al-Bikali claims that the Musa (upon him be peace) who went to Khadir (upon him be peace) was not the Musa of the Children of Israel but another Musa. Hadrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be well pleased with them both) said: The enemy of Allah has lied. Hadrat Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrated to us from the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him): Musa (upon him be peace) stood delivering a sermon among the Children of Israel and was asked: Who is the most learned among people? He said: I am. Allah the Exalted admonished him because he did not attribute knowledge to Allah. So Allah the Exalted revealed to him: At the junction of the two seas there is a servant of Mine who is more learned than you. Musa (upon him be peace) said: O Lord, how can I reach him? He was told: Take a fish in a basket; where you lose it, there he will be. So Musa (upon him be peace) set out with his attendant Yusha' bin Nun (upon him be peace), and they carried a fish in a basket. When they reached a rock, they laid their heads down and fell asleep. The fish slipped out of the basket and made its way into the sea like a tunnel, and this was a matter of great wonder for Musa (upon him be peace) and his attendant. They continued walking the rest of that night and the next day. When morning came, Musa (upon him be peace) said to his attendant: Bring us our morning meal; we have certainly suffered fatigue from this journey. Musa (upon him be peace) did not feel any fatigue until he had passed the place he had been commanded to reach. His attendant said: Did you see, when we rested at the rock, I forgot the fish. Musa (upon him be peace) said: That is precisely what we were seeking. So they retraced their steps. When they reached the rock, they found a man covered with a garment. Musa (upon him be peace) greeted him. Khadir (upon him be peace) said: Where does the greeting of peace come from in your land? Musa (upon him be peace) said: I am Musa. He asked: The Musa of the Children of Israel? He said: Yes. He said: May I follow you so that you teach me of the guidance you have been taught? Khadir (upon him be peace) said: You will not be able to have patience with me. O Musa, I possess knowledge from Allah's knowledge which He has taught me that you do not know, and you possess knowledge which He has taught you that I do not know. Musa (upon him be peace) said: You will find me patient, Allah willing, and I shall not disobey any of your commands. So they both walked along the seashore, having no boat. A boat passed by and they asked to be taken aboard. The crew recognized Khadir (upon him be peace) and took them aboard without fare. A sparrow came and perched on the edge of the boat and dipped its beak once or twice into the sea. Khadir (upon him be peace) said: O Musa, my knowledge and your knowledge have not diminished from Allah's knowledge except as much as this sparrow has diminished from the sea. Then Khadir (upon him be peace) pulled out a plank from the planks of the boat. Musa (upon him be peace) said: These people carried us without fare and you have broken their boat to drown its passengers? Khadir (upon him be peace) said: Did I not tell you that you would not be able to have patience with me? Musa (upon him be peace) said: Do not hold me accountable for what I forgot. The first objection of Musa (upon him be peace) was due to forgetfulness. Then they proceeded and found a boy playing with other boys. Khadir (upon him be peace) seized his head from the top and pulled it off with his hand. Musa (upon him be peace) said: Have you killed an innocent soul without it being in retaliation for another? Khadir (upon him be peace) said: Did I not tell you that you would not be able to have patience with me — Ibn Uyayna says this contains more emphasis than the first — then they proceeded until they came to the people of a town and asked them for food, but they refused to host them. They found there a wall about to collapse, and Khadir (upon him be peace) set it straight with his hand. Musa (upon him be peace) said: If you had wished, you could have taken wages for it. Khadir (upon him be peace) said: This is the parting between you and me. The Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) declared: May Allah have mercy upon Musa! We wished that he had been more patient, so that more of their story would have been related to us.

سعید بن جبیر رحمۃ اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ فرماتے ہیں: میں نے حضرت ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما سے کہا: نوف بکالی کا خیال ہے کہ (حضرت خضر علیہ السلام کے پاس جانے والے) حضرت موسیٰ علیہ السلام بنی اسرائیل والے موسیٰ نہیں تھے بلکہ کوئی اور موسیٰ تھے۔ (یہ سن کر) حضرت ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما نے فرمایا: اللہ کے دشمن نے جھوٹ کہا ہے۔ ہم سے حضرت ابی بن کعب رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سے بیان کیا کہ حضرت موسیٰ علیہ السلام نے بنی اسرائیل میں خطبہ دیا تو ان سے پوچھا گیا: لوگوں میں سب سے زیادہ عالم کون ہے؟ فرمایا: میں ہوں۔ اللہ تعالیٰ نے ان پر عتاب فرمایا کیونکہ انہوں نے علم کو اللہ تعالیٰ کے حوالے نہیں کیا۔ اللہ تعالیٰ نے ان کی طرف وحی فرمائی کہ سنگمِ بحرین پر میرے بندوں میں سے ایک بندہ ہے جو تم سے زیادہ عالم ہے۔ حضرت موسیٰ علیہ السلام نے عرض کیا: اے پروردگار! مجھے ان تک کیسے پہنچایا جائے؟ ارشاد ہوا: ایک مچھلی زنبیل میں رکھ لو، جہاں وہ گم ہو جائے وہیں وہ بندہ ملے گا۔ حضرت موسیٰ علیہ السلام چلے اور اپنے ساتھ اپنے خادم یوشع بن نون علیہ السلام کو لیا اور زنبیل میں مچھلی رکھی۔ یہاں تک کہ جب ایک چٹان کے پاس پہنچے تو دونوں نے سر رکھے اور سو گئے۔ مچھلی زنبیل سے نکل کر دریا میں سرنگ کی طرح اپنی راہ بناتی چلی گئی اور یہ بات حضرت موسیٰ علیہ السلام اور ان کے خادم کے لیے بڑے تعجب کی تھی۔ پھر دونوں باقی رات اور اگلے دن چلتے رہے۔ جب صبح ہوئی تو حضرت موسیٰ علیہ السلام نے خادم سے فرمایا: ہمارا ناشتہ لاؤ، اس سفر میں ہمیں تھکاوٹ ہوئی ہے۔ حضرت موسیٰ علیہ السلام کو اس وقت تک ذرا بھی تھکاوٹ نہیں ہوئی تھی جب تک وہ اس مقام سے آگے نہیں نکل گئے جہاں تک ان کو جانے کا حکم تھا۔ خادم نے عرض کیا: کیا آپ نے دیکھا جب ہم چٹان کے پاس ٹھہرے تھے تو میں مچھلی بھول گیا تھا۔ حضرت موسیٰ علیہ السلام نے فرمایا: یہی وہ جگہ ہے جسے ہم ڈھونڈ رہے تھے۔ تو دونوں اپنے نشانِ قدم پر پلٹے۔ جب چٹان تک پہنچے تو دیکھا کہ ایک شخص کپڑے سے ڈھکے ہوئے ہیں۔ حضرت موسیٰ علیہ السلام نے سلام کیا۔ حضرت خضر علیہ السلام نے فرمایا: تمہاری سرزمین میں سلام کہاں سے؟ حضرت موسیٰ علیہ السلام نے فرمایا: میں موسیٰ ہوں۔ فرمایا: بنی اسرائیل کے موسیٰ؟ عرض کیا: ہاں۔ فرمایا: کیا میں آپ کے ساتھ چل سکتا ہوں تاکہ آپ مجھے اس ہدایت کے علم سے سکھائیں جو آپ کو سکھایا گیا ہے؟ حضرت خضر علیہ السلام نے فرمایا: تم میرے ساتھ صبر نہیں کر سکو گے۔ اے موسیٰ! مجھے اللہ کے علم میں سے ایک ایسا علم دیا گیا ہے جسے تم نہیں جانتے، اور تمہیں ایک ایسا علم دیا گیا ہے جسے میں نہیں جانتا۔ حضرت موسیٰ علیہ السلام نے فرمایا: ان شاء اللہ آپ مجھے صابر پائیں گے اور میں آپ کے کسی حکم کی نافرمانی نہیں کروں گا۔ پھر دونوں دریا کے کنارے چلنے لگے، ان کے پاس کشتی نہیں تھی۔ اتنے میں ایک کشتی گزری، انہوں نے کشتی والوں سے سوار کرنے کو کہا۔ کشتی والوں نے حضرت خضر علیہ السلام کو پہچان لیا اور بغیر کرایے کے سوار کر لیا۔ ایک چڑیا آئی اور کشتی کے کنارے پر بیٹھ کر سمندر میں ایک یا دو چونچیں ماریں۔ حضرت خضر علیہ السلام نے فرمایا: اے موسیٰ! میرے اور تمہارے علم نے اللہ کے علم میں سے اتنا ہی کم کیا ہے جتنا اس چڑیا نے سمندر سے (چونچ مار کر)۔ پھر حضرت خضر علیہ السلام نے کشتی کے ایک تختے کی طرف قصد کیا اور اسے اکھاڑ دیا۔ حضرت موسیٰ علیہ السلام نے فرمایا: ان لوگوں نے ہمیں بغیر کرایے کے سوار کیا اور آپ نے ان کی کشتی میں سوراخ کر دیا تاکہ اس کے سواروں کو ڈبو دیں؟ حضرت خضر علیہ السلام نے فرمایا: کیا میں نے نہیں کہا تھا کہ تم میرے ساتھ صبر نہیں کر سکو گے؟ حضرت موسیٰ علیہ السلام نے فرمایا: میری بھول پر مواخذہ نہ کیجیے۔ حضرت موسیٰ علیہ السلام کی پہلی بات بھول کی وجہ سے تھی۔ پھر دونوں چلے تو ایک لڑکا بچوں کے ساتھ کھیل رہا تھا۔ حضرت خضر علیہ السلام نے اس کے سر کو اوپر سے پکڑا اور اپنے ہاتھ سے اکھاڑ دیا۔ حضرت موسیٰ علیہ السلام نے فرمایا: کیا آپ نے ایک بے گناہ جان کو بغیر کسی جان کے بدلے قتل کر دیا؟ حضرت خضر علیہ السلام نے فرمایا: کیا میں نے تم سے نہیں کہا تھا کہ تم میرے ساتھ صبر نہیں کر سکو گے — ابن عیینہ کہتے ہیں: اس میں پہلے سے زیادہ تاکید ہے — پھر دونوں چلے یہاں تک کہ ایک بستی والوں کے پاس آئے، ان سے کھانا مانگا مگر انہوں نے مہمان نوازی سے انکار کر دیا۔ وہیں ایک دیوار ملی جو گرنے کو تھی، حضرت خضر علیہ السلام نے اپنے ہاتھ سے اسے سیدھا کر دیا۔ حضرت موسیٰ علیہ السلام نے فرمایا: اگر آپ چاہتے تو اس کی مزدوری لے سکتے تھے۔ حضرت خضر علیہ السلام نے فرمایا: یہ میرے اور تمہارے درمیان جدائی کا مقام ہے۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: اللہ تعالیٰ موسیٰ پر رحم فرمائے! ہماری تمنا تھی کہ موسیٰ اور صبر کرتے تاکہ ان دونوں کے مزید واقعات ہمیں بیان کیے جاتے۔
