Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us, he said: Abu Dawud narrated to us from Shu'bah from al-A'mash from Abu Salih from Hadrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be well pleased with him) from the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) who stated: «While a man was walking and became very thirsty, he found a well and went down into it and drank. Then he came out and found a dog panting, eating the moist earth from thirst. The man said: This dog is suffering from thirst as I suffered. So he went down into the well, filled his shoe with water, held it in his mouth, and climbed up. He gave the dog water to drink, and Allah thanked him for that and forgave him.» They asked: O Messenger of Allah, is there reward for us for serving animals? He said: «There is reward for serving every living creature.»
