Ahmad ibn Abdah narrated to us, he said: Sufyan informed us, from Amr, from Ata, from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be well pleased with them both), who said: The Muslims overtook a man with his small flock of sheep. He greeted them with salam, but they killed him and took his sheep. So Allah revealed: 'And do not say to one who gives you [a greeting of] peace: You are not a believer — seeking the goods of worldly life' [4:94] — meaning the sheep. This hadith has been narrated from Ibn Abbas from other routes, and this route is the best route narrated from him in this regard.
