Abda ibn Abdullah narrated to us, he said: Zayd ibn al-Hubab informed us, he said: al-Husayn ibn Waqid informed us from Abdullah ibn Burayda from his father that when Salman al-Farisi arrived in Medina, he came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) with a tray of fresh dates. He said to him: "What is this, O Salman?" He said: "It is charity which I give to you and your companions." He said: "We do not eat charity." The next day he came with the same and placed it before him. He said: "O Salman, what is this?" He said: "A gift." He said: "Eat," and he ate, and he looked at the seal on his back. He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) purchased him for such-and-such dirhams from a group of Jews, on the condition that he would plant such-and-such number of palm trees for them and work until they bore fruit. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) planted the palms except one palm which someone else planted. All the palms bore fruit that year except the one planted by someone else. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Who planted it?" They said: "So-and-so." He uprooted it and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) planted it himself, and it bore fruit that year. This hadith, we do not know it to be narrated except from Burayda from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
