حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ حَبِيبٍ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَعْمَرٍ قَالَا نَا قُرَيْشُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ أَبِي الْأَخْضَرٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ أَبَا ذَرٍّ جَالِسًا وَحْدَهُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَاغْتَنَمْتُ ذَلِكَ فَجَلَسْتُ إِلَيْهِ فَذَكَرْتُ لَهُ عُثْمَانَ فَقَالَ لَا أَقُولُ لِعُثْمَانَ أَبَدًا إِلَّا خَيْرًا لِشَيْءٍ رَأَيْتُهُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كُنْتُ أَتْبَعُ خَلَوَاتِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَتَعَلَّمُ مِنْهُ فَذَهَبْتُ يَوْمًا فَإِذَا هُوَ قَدْ خَرَجَ فَاتَّبَعْتُهُ فَجَلَسَ فِي مَوْضِعٍ فَجَلَسْتُ عِنْدَهُ فَقَالَ يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ مَا جَاءَ بِكَ قَالَ قُلْتُ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ قَالَ فَجَاءَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَسَلَّمَ وَجَلَسَ عَنْ يَمِينِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ لَهُ مَا جَاءَ بِكَ يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ قَالَ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ قَالَ فَجَاءَ عُمَرُ فَجَلَسَ عَنْ يَمِينِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَقَالَ يَا عُمَرُ مَا جَاءَ بِكَ قَالَ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ ثُمَّ جَاءَ عُثْمَانُ فَجَلَسَ عَنْ يَمِينِ عُمَرَ فَقَالَ يَا عُثْمَانُ مَا جَاءَ بِكَ قَالَ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ قَالَ فَتَنَاوَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَبْعَ حَصَيَاتٍ أَوْ تِسْعَ حَصَيَاتٍ فَسَبَّحْنَ فِي يَدِهِ حَتَّى سَمِعْتُ لَهُنَّ حَنِينًا كَحَنِينِ النَّحْلِ ثُمَّ وَضَعَهُنَّ فَخَرِسْنَ ثُمَّ وُضِعْنَ فِي يَدِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَسَبَّحْنَ فِي يَدِهِ حَتَّى سَمِعَ لَهُنَّ حَنِينًا كَحَنِينِ النَّحْلِ فَوَضَعَهُنَّ فَخَرِسْنَ ثُمَّ تَنَاوَلَهُنَّ فَوُضِعْنَ فِي يَدِ عُمَرَ فَسَبَّحْنَ فِي يَدِهِ حَتَّى سَمِعْتُ لَهُنَّ حَنِينًا كَحَنِينِ النَّحْلِ ثُمَّ وُضِعْنَ فَخَرِسْنَ ثُمَّ تَنَاوَلَهُنَّ فَوُضِعْنَ فِي يَدِ عُثْمَانَ فَسَبَّحْنَ فِي يَدِهِ حَتَّى سَمِعْتُ لَهُنَّ حَنِينًا كَحَنِينِ النَّحْلِ ثُمَّ وُضِعْنَ فَخَرِسْنَ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لَا نَعْلَمُهُ يُرْوَى إِلَّا مِنْ حَدِيثِ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ وَرَوَاهُ جُبَيْرُ بْنُ نُفَيْرٍ وَزَادَ فِيهِ جُبَيْرٌ كَلَامًا لَيْسَ فِي حَدِيثِ سُوَيْدٍ وَلَا نَعْلَمُ رَوَاهُ عَنْ سُوَيْدٍ غَيْرُ الزُّهْرِيِّ وَلَا رَوَاهُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ غَيْرُ صَالِحِ بْنِ أَبِي الْأَخْضَرِ وَصَالِحُ لَيِّنُ الْحَدِيثِ وَقَدِ احْتَمَلَ حَدِيثَهُ جَمَاعَةٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ وَحَدَّثُوا عَنْهُ لَهُ عُثْمَانَ فَقَالَ لَا أَقُولُ لِعُثْمَانَ أَبَدًا إِلَّا خَيْرًا لِشَيْءٍ رَأَيْتُهُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كُنْتُ أَتْبَعُ خَلَوَاتِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَتَعَلَّمُ مِنْهُ فَذَهَبْتُ يَوْمًا فَإِذَا هُوَ قَدْ خَرَجَ فَاتَّبَعْتُهُ فَجَلَسَ فِي مَوْضِعٍ فَجَلَسْتُ عِنْدَهُ فَقَالَ يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ مَا جَاءَ بِكَ قَالَ قُلْتُ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ قَالَ فَجَاءَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَسَلَّمَ وَجَلَسَ عَنْ يَمِينِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ لَهُ مَا جَاءَ بِكَ يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ قَالَ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ قَالَ فَجَاءَ عُمَرُ فَجَلَسَ عَنْ يَمِينِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَقَالَ يَا عُمَرُ مَا جَاءَ بِكَ قَالَ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ ثُمَّ جَاءَ عُثْمَانُ فَجَلَسَ عَنْ يَمِينِ عُمَرَ فَقَالَ يَا عُثْمَانُ مَا جَاءَ بِكَ قَالَ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ قَالَ فَتَنَاوَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَبْعَ حَصَيَاتٍ أَوْ تِسْعَ حَصَيَاتٍ فَسَبَّحْنَ فِي يَدِهِ حَتَّى سَمِعْتُ لَهُنَّ حَنِينًا كَحَنِينِ النَّحْلِ ثُمَّ وَضَعَهُنَّ فَخَرِسْنَ ثُمَّ وُضِعْنَ فِي يَدِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَسَبَّحْنَ فِي يَدِهِ حَتَّى سَمِعَ لَهُنَّ حَنِينًا كَحَنِينِ النَّحْلِ فَوَضَعَهُنَّ فَخَرِسْنَ ثُمَّ تَنَاوَلَهُنَّ فَوُضِعْنَ فِي يَدِ عُمَرَ فَسَبَّحْنَ فِي يَدِهِ حَتَّى سَمِعْتُ لَهُنَّ حَنِينًا كَحَنِينِ النَّحْلِ ثُمَّ وُضِعْنَ فَخَرِسْنَ ثُمَّ تَنَاوَلَهُنَّ فَوُضِعْنَ فِي يَدِ عُثْمَانَ فَسَبَّحْنَ فِي يَدِهِ حَتَّى سَمِعْتُ لَهُنَّ حَنِينًا كَحَنِينِ النَّحْلِ ثُمَّ وُضِعْنَ فَخَرِسْنَ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لَا نَعْلَمُهُ يُرْوَى إِلَّا مِنْ حَدِيثِ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ وَرَوَاهُ جُبَيْرُ بْنُ نُفَيْرٍ وَزَادَ فِيهِ جُبَيْرٌ كَلَامًا لَيْسَ فِي حَدِيثِ سُوَيْدٍ وَلَا نَعْلَمُ رَوَاهُ عَنْ سُوَيْدٍ غَيْرُ الزُّهْرِيِّ وَلَا رَوَاهُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ غَيْرُ صَالِحِ بْنِ أَبِي الْأَخْضَرِ وَصَالِحُ لَيِّنُ الْحَدِيثِ وَقَدِ احْتَمَلَ حَدِيثَهُ جَمَاعَةٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ وَحَدَّثُوا عَنْهُ

Ishaq ibn Ibrahim ibn Habib and Muhammad ibn Ma'mar narrated to us, they said: Quraysh ibn Anas narrated to us, from Salih ibn Abi al-Akhdar, from al-Zuhri, from Suwayd ibn Yazid, who said: I saw Abu Dharr sitting alone in the mosque and I seized the opportunity and sat with him. I mentioned 'Uthman to him, and he said: "I will never say anything about 'Uthman except good, because of something I witnessed in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). I used to follow the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) during his private moments and learn from him. One day I went and found that he had gone out, so I followed him. He sat in a spot and I sat near him. He said: 'O Abu Dharr, what brought you?' I said: 'Allah and His Messenger.' Then Abu Bakr came, greeted, and sat to the right of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He asked: 'What brought you, O Abu Bakr?' He said: 'Allah and His Messenger.' Then 'Umar came and sat to the right of Abu Bakr. He asked: 'O 'Umar, what brought you?' He said: 'Allah and His Messenger.' Then 'Uthman came and sat to the right of 'Umar. He asked: 'O 'Uthman, what brought you?' He said: 'Allah and His Messenger.' Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) picked up seven or nine pebbles, and they glorified Allah in his hand until I heard a humming from them like the humming of bees. Then he put them down and they fell silent. Then they were placed in the hand of Abu Bakr and they glorified Allah in his hand until a humming was heard like the humming of bees. Then he put them down and they fell silent. Then they were taken and placed in the hand of 'Umar, and they glorified Allah in his hand until I heard a humming from them like the humming of bees. Then they were put down and fell silent. Then they were taken and placed in the hand of 'Uthman, and they glorified Allah in his hand until I heard a humming from them like the humming of bees. Then they were put down and fell silent." This hadith - we do not know it to be narrated except through the narration of Suwayd ibn Yazid from Abu Dharr. Jubayr ibn Nufayr also narrated it with additional wording not found in Suwayd's version. We do not know anyone who narrated it from Suwayd other than al-Zuhri, nor from al-Zuhri other than Salih ibn Abi al-Akhdar. Salih is lenient in hadith, though a group of scholars accepted and narrated from him.
