Muhammad ibn Miskin narrated to us, he said: Sa'id ibn al-Hakam ibn Abi Maryam narrated to us from Nafi' ibn Yazid, he said: Ja'far ibn Rabi'ah narrated to me that Ubaydullah ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Sa'ib informed him that Abd al-Hamid ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Azhar narrated from his father (may Allah be well pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: 'The likeness of a believer when fever or illness strikes him is like a piece of iron that enters the fire — its impurities are removed and its goodness remains.' This hadith — we do not know of any chain from Abd al-Rahman ibn Azhar except this chain. Similar wording has been narrated from the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) through other chains with different wordings. We mentioned the hadith of Abd al-Rahman ibn Azhar due to the rarity of his narrations from the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). Ubaydullah ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Sa'ib is known in lineage but is not known for transmitting hadith, and Abd al-Hamid ibn Abd al-Rahman — we do not know of anyone who narrated from him except Ubaydullah ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Sa'ib. The hadith of Abu Salamah and Yahya ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Hatib from Abd al-Rahman ibn Azhar — we mentioned it because Abu Salamah and Yahya ibn Abd al-Rahman did not narrate from Abd al-Rahman ibn Azhar any hadith other than this, and we do not know of any chain narrated from Abd al-Rahman ibn Azhar with a better connection than this chain, even though al-Zuhri met him. As for the hadith of Usamah from al-Zuhri from Abd al-Rahman ibn Azhar, others besides Usamah also narrated it, but we limited ourselves to Usamah.
