أنبأ أَبُو نَصْرِ بْنُ قَتَادَةَ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْفَارِسِيُّ قَالَا أنبأ أَبُو عَمْرِو بْنُ مَطَرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الذُّهْلِيُّ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى أنبأ جَرِيرٌ عَنِ الرُّكَيْنِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ عَمِيلَةَ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ حَسَّانَ عَنْ عَمِّهِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ حَرْمَلَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ؓ قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَكْرَهُ عَشْرَ خِلَالٍ تَخَتُّمَ الذَّهَبِ وَجَرَّ الْإِزَارِ وَالصُّفْرَةَ يَعْنِي الْخَلُوقَ وَتَغْيِيرَ الشَّيْبِ وَالرُّقَى إِلَّا بِالْمُعَوِّذَاتِ وَعَقْدَ التَّمَائِمِ وَالضَّرْبَ بِالْكِعَابِ وَالتَّبَرُّجَ بِالزِّينَةِ لِغَيْرِ مَحِلِّهَا وَعَزْلَ الْمَاءِ عَنْ مَحِلِّهِ وَإِفْسَادَ الصَّبِيِّ غَيْرَ مُحَرِّمِهِ قَالَ أَبُو عُبَيْدٍ أَمَّا التِّوَلَةُ فَهِيَ بِكَسْرِ التَّاءِ وَهُوَ الَّذِي يُحَبِّبُ الْمَرْأَةَ إِلَى زَوْجِهَا هُوَ مِنَ السِّحْرِ وَذَلِكَ لَا يَجُوزُ وَأَمَّا الرُّقَى وَالتَّمَائِمُ فَإِنَّمَا أَرَادَ عَبْدُ اللهِ مَا كَانَ بِغَيْرِ لِسَانِ الْعَرَبِيَّةِ مِمَّا لَا يُدْرَى مَا هُوَ قَالَ الشَّيْخُ وَالتَّمِيمَةُ يقَالُ إِنَّهَا خَرَزَةٌ كَانُوا يَتَعَلَّقُونَهَا يَرَوْنَ أَنَّهَا تَدْفَعُ عَنْهُمُ الْآفَاتِ وَيُقَالُ قِلَادَةٌ تُعَلَّقَ فِيهَا الْعُوَذُ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَكْرَهُ عَشْرَ خِلَالٍ تَخَتُّمَ الذَّهَبِ وَجَرَّ الْإِزَارِ وَالصُّفْرَةَ يَعْنِي الْخَلُوقَ وَتَغْيِيرَ الشَّيْبِ وَالرُّقَى إِلَّا بِالْمُعَوِّذَاتِ وَعَقْدَ التَّمَائِمِ وَالضَّرْبَ بِالْكِعَابِ وَالتَّبَرُّجَ بِالزِّينَةِ لِغَيْرِ مَحِلِّهَا وَعَزْلَ الْمَاءِ عَنْ مَحِلِّهِ وَإِفْسَادَ الصَّبِيِّ غَيْرَ مُحَرِّمِهِ قَالَ أَبُو عُبَيْدٍ أَمَّا التِّوَلَةُ فَهِيَ بِكَسْرِ التَّاءِ وَهُوَ الَّذِي يُحَبِّبُ الْمَرْأَةَ إِلَى زَوْجِهَا هُوَ مِنَ السِّحْرِ وَذَلِكَ لَا يَجُوزُ وَأَمَّا الرُّقَى وَالتَّمَائِمُ فَإِنَّمَا أَرَادَ عَبْدُ اللهِ مَا كَانَ بِغَيْرِ لِسَانِ الْعَرَبِيَّةِ مِمَّا لَا يُدْرَى مَا هُوَ قَالَ الشَّيْخُ وَالتَّمِيمَةُ يقَالُ إِنَّهَا خَرَزَةٌ كَانُوا يَتَعَلَّقُونَهَا يَرَوْنَ أَنَّهَا تَدْفَعُ عَنْهُمُ الْآفَاتِ وَيُقَالُ قِلَادَةٌ تُعَلَّقَ فِيهَا الْعُوَذُ

Abu Nasr ibn Qatadah and Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Farisi reported to us; they said: Abu Amr ibn Matar reported to us; he said: Ibrahim ibn Ali al-Dhuhli narrated to us: Yahya ibn Yahya narrated to us: Jarir reported to us, from al-Rukayn ibn al-Rabi ibn Umaylah, from al-Qasim ibn Hassan, from his uncle Abd al-Rahman ibn Harmalah, from Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to dislike ten traits: wearing gold rings, trailing the lower garment (izar), yellow dye — meaning khaluq (a saffron perfume) — altering grey hair, incantations except with the Mu'awwidhat (the protective chapters of the Qur'an), tying amulets, gambling with dice, a woman displaying her adornment other than in its proper place, withdrawing semen from its place (coitus interruptus), and harming a suckling child without going so far as to forbid it outright. Abu Ubayd said: As for al-tiwalah, it is with a kasrah on the ta, and it is that which makes a woman beloved to her husband; it is a form of sorcery, and that is not permissible. As for the incantations and amulets, Abdullah only meant those in other than the Arabic tongue, whose meaning is not known. The Shaykh said: The tamimah — it is said to be a bead that they used to hang, believing that it would repel calamities from them; and it is [also] said to be a necklace on which protective charms are hung.
