Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: While a man was walking on a road, he became very thirsty. He found a well, went down into it, drank, and came out. He found a dog panting and eating moist earth from thirst. The man said: This dog has reached the same level of thirst that I had reached. He went down into the well, filled his shoe with water, held it in his mouth, climbed up, and gave the dog water. Allah thanked him for it and forgave him. They said: O Messenger of Allah, do we have a reward for serving animals? He said: In every living being there is a reward.
