Abu al-Husayn Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Bishran and Abu Abdullah al-Husayn ibn al-Hasan al-Ghada'iri informed us in Baghdad, from Abu Ja'far Muhammad ibn Amr, from Muhammad ibn Ubaydullah al-Munadi, from Yunus ibn Muhammad, from Shayban, from Qatadah, from Salim ibn Abi al-Ja'd, from Ma'dan ibn Abi Talhah, from Abu Najih al-Sulami (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: I witnessed the siege of al-Ta'if with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and I heard the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) say: Whoever shoots an arrow that reaches its target, he has a degree in Paradise. A man asked: O Prophet of Allah, if I shoot an arrow, will I have a degree in Paradise? He said: Yes. So he shot and it reached. He said: I reached sixteen arrows that day. He also said: I heard the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) say: Whoever grows a gray hair in the cause of Allah, it will be a light for him on the Day of Resurrection. And whoever shoots an arrow, it will be a light for him on the Day of Resurrection. And any Muslim man who frees a Muslim man, Allah will make every bone of the freed person a ransom for every bone of his from the Fire. And any Muslim woman who frees a Muslim woman, Allah will make every bone of the freed woman a ransom for every bone of the one who freed her from the Fire. This was also narrated by Asad ibn Wada'ah from Abu Najih Amr ibn Abasah.
