Abu Sa'id al-Khudri narrated: "The Prophet (peace be upon him) was praying when he removed his sandals and placed them to his left. The people removed their sandals. When he finished, he asked why. They said they saw him remove his. He said: 'Jibril told me there was something harmful on them. When one of you comes to the mosque, let him check his sandals — if he sees something harmful, let him wipe them and pray in them.'"
