Abu Ali al-Rudhbari informed us... from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Whoever sleeps with grease on his hands without washing them, and something befalls him, let him blame no one but himself. The hadith of Suwaid bin al-Nu'man about the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and their rinsing their mouths after eating barley meal is evidence in this chapter, and it has preceded in the Book of Purification. So the hadith about washing the hand after eating is sound, while the one about before eating is weak. In the authentic hadith from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet (peace be upon him) came from the privy and food was brought to him. He was asked: O Messenger of Allah, will you not make wudu? He said: I am not about to pray, so why should I make wudu?
