Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz and Abu Sa'id bin Abi Amr informed us... from Muhammad bin Ka'b, who said: Abdullah bin Yazid was invited to a meal. When he came and saw the house adorned, he sat outside and wept. He was asked: What makes you weep? He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to bid farewell to an army at the Pass of Farewell, saying: I entrust to Allah your religion, your trusts, and the conclusions of your deeds. One day he saw a man who had patched his cloak with a piece of cloth. He faced the direction of sunrise, extended his hands, and said three times: The worldly life has appeared before you - meaning it has come to you - until we thought it would fall upon us. Then he said: Are you better today, or when a bowl of food comes to you in the morning and another in the evening, and one of you goes out in one garment in the morning and returns in another in the evening, and you cover your houses as the Ka'bah is covered? Abdullah bin Yazid said: Should I not weep when I have lived to see you cover your houses as the Ka'bah is covered?
