وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ أنا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى أنا هُشَيْمٌ عَنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ أَنَّ زَيْدَ بْنَ ثَابِتٍ وَعَلِيًّا ؓ كَانَا يُوَرِّثَانِ ثَلَاثَ جَدَّاتٍ ثِنْتَيْنِ مِنْ قِبَلِ الْأَبِ وَوَاحِدَةً مِنْ قِبَلِ الْأُمِّ

Abu Sa'id informed us: Abu Abdullah narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Nasr narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Bakkar narrated to us: Ibn Abi al-Zinad narrated from his father from Kharijah from his father Zayd: The patronage (wala') of a freed slave who has no living patron reverts to the patron's male heirs, then to the patron's patron if the original patron has no male heirs.
