Muhammad ibn Ja'far told us: Sa'id told us, from Qatadah, from Abu 'Umar al-Ghudani, who said: I was sitting with Abu Hurayrah when a man from Banu 'Amir ibn Sa'sa'ah passed by, and it was said, "This is the wealthiest man of 'Amir, who has proclaimed his wealth." Abu Hurayrah said, "Bring him back to me," so they brought him back, and he said, "I have been told that you have great wealth." The man of 'Amir said, "Yes, by Allah, I have a hundred red camels and a hundred dark ones," and he went on counting the colors of camels, the varieties of slaves, and strings of horses. Abu Hurayrah said, "Beware of the soft pads of camels and the cloven hooves of sheep," repeating this until the man's color began to change. He said, "What do you mean by that, O Abu Hurayrah?" He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: "Whoever has camels and does not give their due in hardship and ease" — we asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what is their due in hardship and ease?" He said, "In their difficulty and their ease" — "they will come on the Day of Resurrection at their fattest, largest, plumpest and finest; then a smooth open plain will be spread out for them, and they will trample him with their pads; whenever the last of them passes over him, the first will be brought back to him, on a day whose length is fifty thousand years, until judgment is passed among the people and he sees his fate. And whoever has cattle and does not give their due in hardship and ease, they will come on the Day of Resurrection at their fattest, largest, plumpest and finest; then a smooth open plain will be spread out for them, and every cloven-hoofed animal will trample him with its hoof and every horned one will gore him with its horn; whenever the last of them passes over him, the first will be brought back to him, on a day whose length is fifty thousand years, until judgment is passed among the people and he sees his fate. And whoever has sheep and does not give their due in hardship and ease, they will come on the Day of Resurrection at their fattest, largest, plumpest and finest; then a smooth open plain will be spread out for them, and every cloven-hoofed animal will trample him with its hoof and every horned one will gore him with its horn" — meaning none among them will lack a horn or have a broken one — "whenever the last of them passes over him, the first will be brought back to him, on a day whose length is fifty thousand years, until judgment is passed among the people and he sees his fate." The man of 'Amir asked, "What is the due of camels, O Abu Hurayrah?" He said, "That you give away the excellent one in charity, lend out the one abundant in milk, allow its back to be ridden, give its milk to be drunk, and let its stallion be used freely for breeding." And Yazid ibn Harun told us: Shu'bah informed us, from Qatadah, from Abu 'Umar al-Ghudani, from Abu Hurayrah, and he mentioned its meaning. Muhammad ibn Ja'far told us: 'Awf told us, from Khilas, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, similar to the hadith he mentioned from al-Hasan, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he mentioned the meaning of Abu 'Umar's hadith.
