Muhammad ibn Ja'far and Rawh told us — the meaning being the same — they said: Shu'bah told us, from Sulayman, from Dhakwan, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that he said: "There is no envy permissible except in two cases: a man to whom Allah has given the Qur'an, and he recites it throughout the night and throughout the day, so a man hears him and says: 'Would that I had been given what this man has been given, so that I might do as he does'; and a man to whom Allah has given wealth, and he spends it in the cause of truth, so a man says: 'Would that I had been given what this man has been given, so that I might do as he does.'" Yahya ibn Adam told us: Yazid ibn Abd al-Aziz told us, from al-A'mash, from Abu Salih, from Abu Sa'id, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no envy except in two cases," and he mentioned the same, exactly.
