Hashim ibn al-Qasim narrated to us, he said: Abd al-Hamid, meaning Ibn Bahram, narrated to us, he said: Shahr ibn Hawshab narrated to us, he said: Abu Hurayrah said: In ancient times there was a man and his wife who had nothing. The man returned from a journey and came to his wife hungry, having suffered severe hunger. He said to his wife: 'Do you have anything?' She said: 'Yes, rejoice! The provision of Allah has come to you.' He urged her and said: 'Woe to you, find it if you have something.' She said: 'Yes, just a little while - we hope for Allah's mercy.' When the hunger overwhelmed him, he said: 'Woe to you, get up and find it. If you have bread, bring it to me, for I am exhausted and suffering.' She said: 'Yes, the oven is almost ready, so do not rush.' When he was silent for a while and she anticipated that he would speak again, she said on her own: 'Let me get up and check my oven.' She got up and found her oven full of the sides of sheep and her millstones grinding. She went to the millstones and shook them out, and took out what was in her oven of the sides of sheep. Abu Hurayrah said: By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Abu al-Qasim, from the words of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): had she taken what was in her millstones without shaking them out, they would have continued grinding until the Day of Resurrection.
