Attab ibn Ziyad told us: Abdullah - namely Ibn al-Mubarak - told us: Abdullah ibn Shawdhab informed us, who said: Amir ibn Abd al-Wahid told me, from Abdullah ibn Buraida, from Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As, who said: When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, wanted to distribute the spoils of war, he would order Bilal, may Allah be pleased with him, to call out three times. A man brought a rein made of hair to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, after he had distributed the spoils, and said, "O Messenger of Allah, this is from spoils I had taken." He said, "Did you not hear Bilal calling out three times?" He said, "Yes." He said, "What kept you from bringing it to me?" The man made an excuse. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "I will not accept it from you unless you yourself bring it to me on the Day of Resurrection."
