Affan narrated to us: Shu'bah narrated, Ibrahim ibn Maymun informed me, he said: I heard a man from Banu al-Harith who said: I heard a man among us called Ayyub who said: I heard Abdullah ibn Amr saying: "Whoever repents a year before his death, his repentance is accepted. Whoever repents a month before his death, his repentance is accepted. Whoever repents a week before his death, his repentance is accepted. Whoever repents a day before his death, his repentance is accepted." Until he said: "Whoever repents before his soul reaches his throat, his repentance is accepted." He said: "Allah said: 'Turn to Allah in repentance all together, O believers, so that you may succeed.'"
