Waki' narrated to us: Sufyan and Mis'ar narrated from Habib ibn Abi Thabit from Abu al-Abbas al-Makki from Abdullah ibn Amr who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "The best fasting is the fast of my brother Dawud (David): he would fast one day and break his fast one day, and he would not flee when he met the enemy." He also said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "He who fasts perpetually has not truly fasted."
