Abdur-Razzaq told us, Ibn Jurayj informed us: Abu az-Zubayr informed me that Ali al-Azdi informed him that Ibn Umar taught him that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), when he settled himself upon his camel setting out on a journey, would say the takbir three times, then say: Glory be to the One who has subjected this to us, for we could not have done it ourselves, and indeed to our Lord we shall return. O Allah, we ask You, on this journey of ours, for righteousness and piety, and for deeds pleasing to You. O Allah, make this journey of ours easy for us, and fold up its distance for us. O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the Guardian over the family left behind. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardship of travel, from the distress of returning, and from an evil change in family and wealth. And when he returned he would say the same words, adding to them: Returning, repenting, worshipping, and praising our Lord.
