Ya'qub told us: The nephew of Ibn Shihab told us, from his uncle: Salim ibn Abdullah told me that Abdullah said: When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, stood up for prayer, he would raise his hands until they were level with his shoulders, then say the takbir. Then, when he wished to bow, he would raise them until they were level with his shoulders and say the takbir while they were so, and bow. Then, when he wished to raise his back (from bowing), he would raise them until they were level with his shoulders, saying, 'Allah hears whoever praises Him.' Then he would prostrate, not raising his hands during prostration, and he would raise them at every rak'ah and at every takbir he said before bowing, until his prayer was completed.
