Isma'il ibn Umar told us: Kathir, that is Ibn Zayd, told me, from al-Muttalib ibn Abdullah, from Abdullah ibn Umar, that he was standing at Arafat and looked at the sun when it had descended like a shield toward setting, and he wept, and his weeping intensified. A man near him said to him, 'O Abu Abd al-Rahman, you have stood with me here many times; why do you do this?' He said: 'I remembered the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, standing in this very spot of mine, saying: O people, nothing remains of your worldly life, of what has passed of it, except like what remains of your day today of what has passed of it.'
