Ya'qub told us: My father told us, from Ibn Shihab, from Salim ibn Abdullah, from Abdullah ibn Umar, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: 'Truly your remaining time compared to the nations that passed before you is like the time between the afternoon prayer and sunset. The people of the Torah were given the Torah and worked until midday, then grew weak, so they were given one qirat each. Then the people of the Gospel were given the Gospel and worked until the afternoon prayer, then grew weak, so they were given one qirat each. Then we were given the Qur'an and worked until sunset, so we were given two qirats each. The People of the two Books said, "Our Lord, why have You given these two qirats each while You gave us one qirat each, though we worked more than they did?" Allah, exalted is He, said, "Have I wronged you in any of your due rewards?" They said, "No." He said, "Then it is My favor which I give to whom I will."'
