Sulayman ibn Hayyan told us, from al-Hasan - that is, Ibn Ubaydullah - from Sa'd ibn Ubayda: Ibn Umar heard a man say, "Tonight is the middle [of the month]," so he said: "How do you know it is the middle? Rather it is the fifteenth. I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: 'The month is like this, and like this, and like this'" - and Abu Khalid closed [his fingers] on the third time.
