حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمٌ وَحُجَيْنٌ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَثَلُ الْمُؤْمِنِ مَثَلُ شَجَرَةٍ لَا تَطْرَحُ وَرَقَهَا قَالَ فَوَقَعَ النَّاسُ فِي شَجَرِ الْبَدْوِ وَوَقَعَ فِي قَلْبِي أَنَّهَا النَّخْلَةُ فَاسْتَحْيَيْتُ أَنْ أَتَكَلَّمَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هِيَ النَّخْلَةُ قَالَ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِعُمَرَ فَقَالَ يَا بُنَيَّ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تَتَكَلَّمَ فَوَاللَّهِ لَأَنْ تَكُونَ قُلْتَ ذَلِكَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ أَنْ يَكُونَ لِي كَذَا وَكَذَا.
انگریزی ترجمہ
Hashim and Hujayn told us, they said: Abd al-Aziz told us, from Abdullah ibn Dinar, from Ibn Umar, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The likeness of the believer is the likeness of a tree that does not shed its leaves." He said: The people began to guess among the desert trees, and it occurred to my heart that it was the date-palm, but I was too shy to speak up. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, then said: "It is the date-palm." He said: I mentioned that to Umar, and he said: "O my son, what kept you from speaking? By Allah, if you had said that, it would have been dearer to me than such-and-such."
