Surayj told us, Mulazim b. Amr told us, Abdullah b. Badr told me that he went out on hajj with a group of his companions until they arrived at Mecca. They entered the mosque and touched the Black Stone, then we circled the House seven times, then we prayed two rak'ahs behind the Station of Ibrahim. Then there was a large man wearing a waist-wrap and cloak calling out to us near the basin, so we went up to him, and I asked about him, and they said: "Ibn Abbas." When we came to him, he said: "Who are you?" We said: "People of the East," and there were people of al-Yamamah with us. He said: "Are you pilgrims performing hajj or umrah?" I said: "Rather, hajj." He said: "Then you have invalidated your hajj." I said: "I have performed hajj many times and used to do the same." He said: "Go to your place until Ibn Umar comes." So I said: "O Ibn Umar, we have arrived," and we related our story to him and told him what he had said - that we had invalidated our hajj. He said: "I remind you by Allah, did you set out as pilgrims for hajj?" We said: "Yes." He said: "By Allah, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, performed hajj, and Abu Bakr, and Umar, and all of them did exactly what you did."
