Mu'ammal told us, Sufyan told us, from Abdullah b. Dinar: I heard Ibn Umar say: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The likeness of this nation - or he said, my nation - and the likeness of the Jews and the Christians is that of a man who said: 'Who will work for me from morning until midday for one qirat?' The Jews said, 'We will,' and they did the work. Then he said: 'Who will work for me from midday until the afternoon prayer for one qirat?' The Christians said, 'We will,' and they worked. And you, the Muslims, work from the afternoon prayer until night for two qirats. So the Jews and the Christians became angry and said: 'We have done more work and received less reward.' He said: 'Have I wronged you of any of your due reward?' They said: 'No.' He said: 'That is My favor, which I give to whom I will.'" He said: I heard this hadith from Yahya b. Sa'id but did not write it down, from Sufyan, from Abdullah b. Dinar, from Ibn Umar, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "So the Jews worked thus and the Christians thus," similar to the hadith of Ayyub, from Nafi', from Ibn Umar, concerning the story of the Jews.
