Husayn told us: Khalaf told us, from Abu Janab, from his father, from Abdullah ibn Umar: There was a palm-trunk in the mosque against which the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to lean his back when it was Friday, or when something happened and he wanted to speak to the people. They said: Shall we not make something for you, O Messenger of Allah, of the size where you stand? He said: There is no harm if you do so. So they made him a pulpit with three steps. He said: So he sat on it, and the trunk moaned as a cow moans, out of grief for the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. So he embraced it and wiped it until it calmed down.
